The above are not in ownership order - just as I remembered them. Of the ones listed above only 2 stand alone as my favourites.
The Commodore VT SS V8 - fast, smooth, a great drive, thirsty, high insurance and limited capabilities.
The Land Rover Discovery TD5 - the most versatile car I've ever owned. Reliable, has character, looks great, a fantastic drive, economical, I feel special driving it when other Land Rover drivers wave, takes me places other vehicles wont, best 4wd in standard form than any other make, Land Rovers lead - others follow. I enjoy listening to drivers of other makes justifying their poor choice of 4wd by continually bagging any Land Rover product. It amazes me that these other makes have to have a fortune spent on them to make them any where near as capable as a Landie. Apart from that they all look so bland.
As well as the pleasure of ownership the thing that impresses me the most is forums like this and the people on it - nothing is too much trouble, you need help, post a question and the replies and assistance are fantastic. Buy a Land Rover and you not only get the best 4wd you also become part of a global family.
I looked long and hard at all the makes before buying my Disco and nothing I saw matched the Land Rovers. My big decision was whether to get a Defender or Discovery.
Will I ever buy any other make of 4wd - No
Have I rambled too much - yes - I'm going for a drive.
I think thats why i love land rovers so much. When i was in year 12 dad took me to the 50th birthday celebration at cooma, even as, what most people would call a "young punk" no matter how stupid the question i asked anyone was happy to talk to me about their land rover. Ask the same of a cruiser or patrol driver, not all, and all you get is arrogance and a get out of my face kind of attitude, or you get laughed at when you ask, what they consider to be, a stupid question.
