76 chrysler centura (245 hemi)
72 gt 185 suzuki
79 xs750 yamaha
94 eb falcon wagon
79 rangie (3.5l v8)

Best road car was the centura....dangerous car

Why landies? As everyone else said,

love them or hate them, everyone knows them
reliable, go anywhere and do anything
sort of a contagous thing about them also.............

Mini Deluxe
Mini Cooper 'S'
Volvo 2door sport
Hillman Hunter
Renault 10 x 3
Renault 12 sedan
Renault 12 station wagon
BMW 1602
BMW 2002
Suzuki 4wd soft top
Mitsubishi L300 Star wagon
Mitsubishi Magna
Subaru Forester
Holden HD wagon
Holden HQ panel van 253 V8
Commodore VC 4 cyl
Commodore VC 6 cyl
Commodore VN V6
Commodore VP V6
Commodore VS V8
Commodore VT SS V8
L/R Discovery TD5

The above are not in ownership order - just as I remembered them. Of the ones listed above only 2 stand alone as my favourites.

The Commodore VT SS V8 - fast, smooth, a great drive, thirsty, high insurance and limited capabilities.

The Land Rover Discovery TD5 - the most versatile car I've ever owned. Reliable, has character, looks great, a fantastic drive, economical, I feel special driving it when other Land Rover drivers wave, takes me places other vehicles wont, best 4wd in standard form than any other make, Land Rovers lead - others follow. I enjoy listening to drivers of other makes justifying their poor choice of 4wd by continually bagging any Land Rover product. It amazes me that these other makes have to have a fortune spent on them to make them any where near as capable as a Landie. Apart from that they all look so bland.

As well as the pleasure of ownership the thing that impresses me the most is forums like this and the people on it - nothing is too much trouble, you need help, post a question and the replies and assistance are fantastic. Buy a Land Rover and you not only get the best 4wd you also become part of a global family.

I looked long and hard at all the makes before buying my Disco and nothing I saw matched the Land Rovers. My big decision was whether to get a Defender or Discovery.

Will I ever buy any other make of 4wd - No

Have I rambled too much - yes - I'm going for a drive.

1998 Discovery TDi (current)

These guys are all right and obviously have the depth of knowledge to become bored with owning an over priced over engineered far eastern made sand digger apart from my misguided experiment with an 8o series  I would always have a LR..

Might as well do this as a memeory flexer.
Bikes:
Honda step thru 50cc
Honda CB77 305cc (fell off 3 times) 50 to 350 is not wise!
Triumph Trophy 650 cc
Honda 500 four (first model)
Honda CB750 (first model)
Honda Gold Wing 1000cc (first model)
2 x Honda CBX 6 cyl 1000 (first and second models)
Honda MB50
Honda 350 trail bike
Honda CB350 twin
Kawasaki 50cc road racer (ex Japan domestic market)
Honda CB1100R (1000cc 120hp NZ model)
Honda XL125 trail bike
Honda CR250 Motocrosser
Honda Bol'Dor 900cc

Cars: no particular order
Austin Seven (soft top - the ducks nuts)
Nash Rambler (fit all the mates in)
2 x Toyota FJ40 (slow learner)
Rover 3.5 V8
Triumph 2.5TC
Morris 1100
Honda Accord x 2 (old to newer model)
Daimler Jag (British at its finest)
Jag XJ6 (wifes car)
Subaru Brumby (lotsa fun)
Daihatsu Feroza (gutless)
Disco V8i (gas guzzler)
Disco TDi (steady as she goes)
Disco ES DII (too nice for the bush)
Defender 90 (just right!)

As you can see, once I hit the British cars I just could not go back.
I am a tinkerer and this goes hand in hand with the Brit Machinery.

Had a GQ parol back in 89 4.2 diesel... great car and my intro to 4x4
cruiser in 94, petrol and almost sent me broke... need a NOSE on the bullbar to find petrol stations! God knows what the 4.8 is like!
Next was a 2000 Pathfinder. Gret car too, but still way too thirsty and limited by the independent front end.
Now..... 2001 disco Td5..... most comfortable, capable and versatile fourbie I have had and the economy is amazing.
Reliable..... so far yes.
Annoying at times..... at times yes
But this forum is the best in the world..... just ask and there are any number of people out there who can tell you what, how and how much.

Never been happier.

By the way.... I have owned a total of 26 cars over the last 36 years.... frankly, the only relevant ones have been named above lol

Go for it.... just buy one!

It's all my mates fault as he bought a Ser3 stage 1 and I caught the bug, plus the Government won't let me have a Main Battle Tank

Honda CB 400 four
Kwaka Z 250 single
Kwaka Z 1000
Kwaka ZZR 600
XE ford
1976 VW Super bug

Nissan Navara

I think thats why i love land rovers so much. When i was in year 12 dad took me to the 50th birthday celebration at cooma, even as, what most people would call a "young punk" no matter how stupid the question i asked anyone was happy to talk to me about their land rover. Ask the same of a cruiser or patrol driver, not all, and all you get is arrogance and a get out of my face kind of attitude, or you get laughed at when you ask, what they consider to be, a stupid question.

The biggest reason for Landy bashing on the other forums is because thats the only thing that makes them feel better about owning an inferior brand of off road vehicle. Matt
