Actually there was both a French and Belgian Congo, the Belgian part is known as the Dem Rep of Congo, the French also known as Middle Congo is now known as Gabon and the Central African Republic.

Yes, true, although it was a bit of a tug of war with the Germans for a while. Gabon is the only part of Africa that was ever called "Congo" that could be considered "west", but it really is not. West Africa begins with Nigeria and Chad.Quote:
