You would be surprised,the foxes and cats had virtually disappeared from the property we go to a lot near St George.
Twenty years ago they were very common,we could easily shoot ten or more in a night,in say 2 to 3 hours spotting.And we would see them during the day.
The only thing that had changed was the introduction of baiting with 1080.
No 1080 baiting has been done on the property,or the neighbouring properties for the last two years,mainly due to the installation of the exclusion fences,and the neighbouring properties wanting to have working dogs.Hopefully they will never use it again.
We were out there four weeks ago,and we saw more foxes and cats than we had seen for many years,even though the area is in drought.
The property owners in the area put this down to not baiting,which was done only for wild dogs.
Another animal it doesn't seem to effect much is wild pigs.
