Was invited to one being held in a friends street. Cost £10 a head to attend. So a win here as could go as a participant not having to worry about organising
Only request was to bring a desert that could feed 8 people. Other were tasked with food to go with the mains. If home made had to bring list of ingredients to display with the food. How much 8 people eat was left up to me. No one skimped and there was plenty of food until the end
Organisers were doing BBQ with hamburgers and sausages enough to 2 of each per person. About 150 people attending most being from the street and surrounding streets
Street had bunting strung across it and along the fences and housing. Everyone brought their own table and chairs which were set up in rows on each side of the street. More flags provided to decorate the tables. Even food was on paper plates with the flag on them
Entry to the street had an arch of red, blue and white balloons. Collect stick on name tag and first cup of Pims. This drink seems to be the original alco pop and is very popular here
Also at the entry was a life size cut out of the couple with some dress up clothes and a corgi for selfies. Something I was able to resist. Was more popular with the ladies later in the day who after a few drinks
First up was to mingle and then join the food queue. Once feed and watered a raffle was drawn. Prizes were various bottles of gin. Then the kids did a parade with the crowns they had been making with various prizes given out
Kids then had a treasure hunt with more prizes while the adults continued to work on food and drink
It seems one American from the base near by appeared to not understand the dress code of red, white and blue and was wearing black tie
Weather in our favour as was dry and the sun even shining for about half the time. Temperature in double digits for about the third day so far this year. Someone commented on it being 18 degrees which was almost too hot. Today back to over cast and single digits
Surprised me that except for the bunting and selfie opportunity at the entrance it was much like any other gathering for a party. No other mention of the excuse for the party. Not even a toast
Started at 1 and all over packing up by 5pm.
