Not good up this way either. But in reality we have not seen a drought in Australia yet that compares with one that was around in 1770. I remember when I was at primary school and learning about explorers like Cook, Tasman etc, I read that Capt Cook had trouble finding fresh water on the east coast when he was sailing north. Some years ago I had a mate who worked in CRC Reef Research at James Cook Uni. From coral coring on the reef they can establish the size of the wet seasons from the silt deposits from major rivers like the Burdekin. Their records indicate in that period the Burdekin had not flowed for 10 years - that is something we have never seen. Even in the driest years it still flows. Let's hope we don't see a repetition of that one.
