If 7 seats would ever be a requirement then a Peugeot 4007 SV could be the go. Same engine as the Freelander 2 ( similar spec to current new Discovery Sport), 7ltrs/100kms, goes well, leather seats & other dash/door panels, heated front seats, real nice in the winter, bluetooth enabled & all that stuff which I have no idea about. Less drafty than my Series 1, 107", stops better, gets up to speed better & handles the dirt roads a treat.

Production ended in 2012, so some real low mileage examples in her price range. Of course it is a Mitsi underneath, but well disguised. We got ours only because of the seven seats, which we have required once in 2+ years! Tudo Bem.

That budget would pretty much get her into Sitecs 101 if it's still on the Market.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

She came over to visit again today but it wasn't to see us. She came to see the Defenders and have another drive. Now I'm thinking what have I done. Its bad enough the Pocket Rocket expects me to sit in the passenger seat now its the mini Pocket Rocket as well.

She reckons she's never had so much fun driving and she likes being able to see everything. I think she's going to check out some Discos as well but I think she's a convert.

It's obvious. Sell her yours because, as you'll tell her mum, 'she needs a vehicle we know to be safe and reliable, luv'.
Sure, you lose your Defender BUT, you get to go shopping for a new car... which strangely will be up-market from the one it's replacing

Anything else is a downgrade. The dealer tried to talk us into taking a drive in a Disco when mine was in for a warranty issue. They didn't understand when we said we weren't interested in downgrading.

Jeep Wrangler, very capable out of the box and cheap to add a lift to. We have been very happy with SWMBOs and $35K would get you a very good second hand unit in an unlimited ( LWB )

I'd be looking at one post 2012 as they had an engine upgrde with that model.

She doesn't want a jeep. She wants to be able to park in our driveway when she comes over

Like I tell SWMBO Jeeps and Landrovers are two sides of the same coin. Driving in to town on Sunday I had to wave back at three other Wrangler driving nutbags, a much better wave rate than I ever got with a Disco 3.

So one gets you head and the other gets you tail? Is that what you're inferring?
