The truckie must be having a hard day, I would say. No excuse for the abuse though!!!![]()
Early this week I was driving back to work, just drove through Mt Garnet when I caught up to a very slow triple with an obviously very heavy load.
He was doing about 70kph & getting slower through the winding hills, also due to the road & hills he was pretty hard to see around.
So I sat behind him for a bit then as we rounded a curve I got a reasonable look ahead & had a broken centre line on my side so I put the hammer down & pulled out to pass him.
I noticed I had a gentle down hill & clear road so kept going, by the time I got level with his second trailer I noticed that I was going to not be able to finish passing him before I was back on double white centre lines.
As I was now doing 100+kph & still had good visibility & enough road I decided to continue the overtake which I completed without incident.
Once I got in front & back on my side of the road the UHF comes to life with the truck driver swearing at me, calling me every name under the sun & how I gave truckies a bad name & was trying to kill him etc.
I was totally dumbfounded! Yes what I did was probably illegal (not sure) but I had done my best to complete the overtake ASAP & there had been no problems. I didn't cut in front of him very close or violently & I figured that the original decision to overtake may have been slightly misjudged but that the decision to continue the overtake was not.
So, being a bit peeved I got on the UHF & asked if he was either on drugs or didn't get any last night?
Well I then got a continuous tirade until I drove out of radio range.
I decided not to stop for awhile in case he came along & drove over the top of me.
Anyway, first time I've had that happen by a truckie. Road Rage by UHF?

Put this way, if you didn't have the UHF on then you would have gone on with your day and have been none the wiser. He would have been abusing you and no one would be listening.
Maybe it pays to radio ahead of your intentions.
Glad your ok.
Cheers,
mario
I do use the UHF on the dirt roads & single lane pavement to advise trucks & vans I'm overtaking but not usually on double lane roads.
No harm was done but it did surprise me that he carried on so much.
Maybe it was 'Turbo' from the TV show Out back truckers.
He is a tool, idiot and a fool.
Like the show otherwise
Obviously the perceptions varied
Radioing ahead to communicate your intensions is a good habit to get into.
