Would be nice to go. I have a book that is great and very entertaining about Camp Oven Cooking by Jack Absalom and keep it in the car. The kids love some of the stories and also some of the creative recipies we make, especially the spotted lizard.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> bought a camp oven immediately after which they introduced fire bans all over the shop - that was about a year ago and i've yet to use it.

I have found quite often talking to calm officers or rangers that although there can be fire bans in place you may be allowed to have a camp fire big enough to cook a camp oven or a small fire to sit around provided you have a 3metre clearance all the way around and it is kept small. This happened on our last trip in the SW of WA last summer. We had set up camp on the edge of the blackwood river and the calm officer pulled up for a chat. There was some firewood stacked near a tree from previous campers so he asked if we were having a fire. We said no as we had planned not to due to fire restrictions and he said small fires between 5:00pm and 9:00am were allowed as long as they were supervised while burning and had a 3metre clearance and would need to be extinguished if thw wind came up. Pays to check sometimes.

Spotted kid is quite nice, just depends how you cook it.
Recipe
1 or 2 small children preferablly under 4 years of age (older kids are a bit tough and hard to squeeze in) don't use your own kids as it is regarded as unethical.
3 kg salt
2 kg pepper
20 kg potatoes
10 kg carrots
12 whole cabbages
15 litres water
15 litres of orange juice
400 small chillies
36 cloves of garlic
47 packets of french onion soup
Simmer in a large camp oven (made from Cat 769 dump truck rim) for about 3 days and serve to everyone else except yourself as you are more than likely used to kids giving you the ****s.
