There would be certainty for those jobs if Governments where required to buy their infrastructure locally and continuos work at these plants would eventually lead to cheaper production. Taxes paid by Workers and Companies would make up for the shortfall for Health and Education. So yes it is short sighted, bad for the Economy and diminishes the Nations ability to maintain its Sovereignty.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

    Yup I agree.
Your looking at roughly 1200 jobs that where going to be based in either Goulburn, hunter region or down my way in unanderra. (All experiencing high unemployment)They , if on average wages over the 10 year build:
#would have put almost 1 billion into the local community,
#paid about $100million in direct tax and another 80-100 in gst, fuel tax etc.
#Reduced welfare by 1200 people saving the govt about $250million in payments.
Instead we sent it overseas to our detriment.

Yes, so much for us being the clever country. More like the dumb country I'd say - not smart enough to grow our own economy.

I suppose part of the blame will be put on the politicians who allow the outsourcing of these products and services , but who votes them in ?

We can't comment on that here , but I can say the elected mob on NSW southern border have a 50% minimum content policy for Choo Choo and a 100% on steel if possible. It's a pity another state is supporting local industry more than the one that could benefit most!

To rub salt into the insult of a 2.3 billion overseas job loss is a $200million job creation program announced one day after shipping 1200 overseas!

A few years back I had a miserable couple weeks working for a firm that produced rail goods for a state rail system . In the two weeks besides myself
about one person per day left , with or without notice. The quality and attention to providing a good product was minimal. The overall feeling was that if the owner and managing floor staff weren't such miserable tyrants a bit more care and effort would have been put into the finished goods. From what I have heard it is still happening . They must be making a profit but ethically it seems no different than third world sweat shops.
