help needed to save our manufacturing.

First I'd like to thank everyone who supported the last campaign in Victoria, it was successful in getting a commitment to using local products first.
There is a new campaign to take this nationally to both the states and federal government to obtain a commitment to use at least 50% local steel. The US has had a 50% local law since 1933, over 80 years, Canada has an 85% local law, Brazil taxes any imported steel products on a variable scale up.to $732/ton us. All we are asking for is a similar level of commitment to.local jobs and production. We're not asking for the billions china puts on export bonuses that make Chinese steel cheaper in Shepparton than shanghai. All we are asking for is a fair go.

    Hi Matthew

I signed a petition for this that the Australian steel Institute was organising. They were pushing for 100% australian steel in NSW government projects.

I think its a great idea. Not only is it supporting local but it also makes sure that the steel being used complies with national safety standards. There are a number of standards that australian manufacturers have to meet, yet we can import steel for the same purpose that may or may not comply with these standards?

Worst example of overseas steel ive seen was photos of a truss that had been fabricated out of thinner steel than specified, tack welded together, sikflexed so that the sealant looked like welds then painted silver to hide it. It was then filled with enough water to bring it up to the weight it should have been if it was made out of the right gauge steel and properly welded.

    Cheers

    Dan

Somewhat ironic this thread on a forum for a 100% imported vehicle. I have tried compensate by supporting local manufacturers, Apt, Rijidij, Nugget, etc etc , but running out of space
