I signed. If you put your petition up on Change.org, you will have a really good shot at victory.
    Cheers, Billy.

Speak for yourself - both my Landrovers are substantially (>50%) Australian made, and both are models unique to Australia.

Actually there is no local competitor to a def 110 wagon with 9 seats, only the Disco sport 7 competes with the local territory. It's also why until recently all 4x4's had a lower imports tax than other cars. The last ones we made here where the ckd series, of which I had a 88in. Ford also made a few experimental falcon utes in the early 70's.
Of the cars I've owned ,5 where made here, the others where a RRc and my current defender. My wife had a Prado x2 and is now in a multivan since 2010, as our 5 kids , 15-3 or when we bought it 4 kids 10- newborn, , with 2 car /baby seats don't fit in most wagons. Try getting a 5,ft plus13 year old into the boot over either 2 kids seats or the pram jammed in behind the third row

    aussie content LR

my estimation is by the time a landrover is retired its foriegn content is about 25%, 50,000 car, 150,000 on service costs and labor.

if we imported more of them think of the jobs we would create

That is actually a very good point. Whilst Landys go on and on those costs go on and on. Most of the money is going into Australian pockets and then there are the mods. Much of the cost of them also stays in Australia. Many other imports go through their scheduled services, get sold, and soon enough they're on a pile at Sims Metal.
    Cheers, Billy.

I knew that would get a bite
And as I said I have maxed out my Aussie accessories.
I always assumed Oz made Lr were 100% CKD, but apparently not.
Of course without a Chinese steel industry we wouldn't have a dirt exporting industry, pity we can't process our dirt a bit more.
Anyhow, free trade is one thing, but dumping should be blocked.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

No bite, just a chance to educate.
Our plant makes about 2.5 million tons, and employs both directly and through subbies/suppliers about 16,000. Prior to the GFC and shutting 1/2 the plant those where about 50% higher.
This means if we processed about 10% of what we currently export in dirt we'd have every miner employed and zero unemployment.

A uni report into the effect on the local are estimates around 10,000 jobs and 17% unemployment .
Study released by union predicts doubling of Illawarra's unemployed if steelworks closes - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Unfortunately so far our state premier has his head in the sand and won't commit.

For those without facebook, the latest article:

Welcome to the first Steel Myth Buster.
Tonight we demolish the ''garbage'' peddled by big business mouthpieces that the high wages of Australian Steel Workers are the reason that our steelworks is in crisis. Let's consider the wages paid to workers in the largest steel producer in the USA, ArcelorMittal.
Average wage: $97,946 USD ($133,206 AUD)
... It doesn't end there, the boss pays ALL their health insurance: Average per employee: $18,274 USD ($24,852 AUD)
Not finished yet, pensions and other post - retirement benefits are also paid which averaged in 2014: $37,054 USD ($54,393 AUD)
Now who wants to look at Sweden ?
    Source: The 2014 ArcelorMittal USA
    Fact Book

And further good news , hopefully something will come of the meetings.
