Yeah. Spending $26,000,000+ to remove the union jack from our flag is really telling them.

    Do you think they care?

Changing the flag is spending some of my money and I don't want it changed.

Governments waste enough as it is. Our flag is 113 years old and is serving us well.

So what if it has a union jack in the corner. Does it matter?

If it aint broke don't try and fix it.
    It's broke.

    No. I don't think they give a rat's rectum.
By the way. I don't think the flag should be changed either. I haven't seen a single design yet, except perhaps the Eureka flag, that goes anywhere near being representative of our nation or armorially correct, at once.
    Cheers, Billy.

The current Australian flag represents only one cultural origin, as part of one of the most culturally diverse continents on earth. It's broke and it needs fixing.

True and a good portion of those originally represented, are grudgingly represented.
    Cheers, Billy.

    Mine isn't. It's perfectly servicable.

You could get a new one on ebay for about $50.

The Eureka flag is a Victorian flag. It has a very specific meaning. I wouldn't want that meaning polluted by using it as the national flag of Australia.

Well I'd like to appropriate it. If all of Australia could stand by that oath we'd all be better off. By the way. It was designed by an Italian.

Whether you want to ignore it or not, most of the basic structures of our society come from our colonial history, certainly modified by over two hundred years of a vastly different physical and social environment and nearly a century of effective independence (since the Statute of Westminster). I suggest that changing the flag is unnecessary, and is urged by those who have some sort of an axe to grind about much more important changes to our society. These changes are very unlikely to actually happen except over a very long time.

The Westminster system is clearly in crisis. As is the constitutional republic of the USA. Look at what's happening!

Common Law favours the wealthy more every day. Have you ever tried to get legal aid on a low income??

Our current flag is symbolic of the colonial arrogance that has lead us to this point. Growth capitalist mono cultural exclusivity has one outcome. Monopoly and a disaffected other.

We live in very dangerous times because of 'our' flag. The 'lucky country' is actually a multinational continent. Continuing to devalue that is madness. Yet our flag represents that in all of us every day.

But we can't talk politics here. So we can't talk flags either.
