When I designed some of my benches for my shed I made them all the same height as my Triton saw table - the reason was if I needed to rip a full sheet of ply / MDF I could use the edges of my benches as support - All I had to do was move the Triton around to the right spot.

Trion is 900 hundred high as are my benches for exactly the reasons you stated

This is the only shed I have that I can really work in. When we shifted down here 5years ago, I decided this shed was for working in. Not for car parking or storing anything. There is other crappy sheds around the yard for that purpose (that don't have sealed floors or power).

It's only a little shed. Only 12 x 7 meters. It's one of the really cheapo ones, the roller doors dont' work very well, the slab "sweats" a lot of moisture up through it if the ground in saturated in the middle of winter. But it is water proof and dry .... Somehting I'd wanted for 20years



I scored a ****load ( yes a technical term) of mosonite sheeting. I was working from home back then, so the back corner is lined with masonite and heavily insulated. I keep desks and my sewing machines in that bit. The bench area is beside the office, and the big lined area was to be a spray booth (I finish it oneday .... in 30years when I have the time to paint cars again .... and the money to buy paint). All the lights are from a sparky mate that tore them out of an office complex ... they usually binned them, but he picked the best of them and chucked them in his work car for me.

Those ramps are the alignment ramps out of baurepairs ballarat .... massively heavy things that pivot at the front. I've often used these as two long benches when sorting out car parts etc... They were on ebay for months ... so I offered him scrap metal price for them and he loaded them onto my trailer with a forklift .... Getting them off the trailer and into here was FUN



I have a 3 year old that's into everything .... so about 6months ago I had a good cleanup. Every chemical was put into cupboards that could be locked. All the paints go in here and I welded a catch to it so it could be padlocked.





A mate was chucking out an old coat locker, 'cos no-one really wanted them. there all empty space so no good for storing stuff in.... so I screwed some shelves into that and put all the oils, poisons etc... I just screwed some tags across the top so he can't open the doors.



low benches suck bigtime. Unless your really short they kill your back to work at. This gives me some cupboards and draws to store tool boxes in though. Old kitchens have really thick benchtops if your ever after a free workbench. (couple of inches thick) You can easily screw vices/grinders/etc/ down to them.

No-one ever wants cataloging draw unit like those.... 'cos the draws are to small.... Often given away free to get rid of them There brilliant things. put all your sorted fasteners/nails/rivets/tapes/electrical components into them. Way more useful than big filing draws.







Pallet racking is the best stuff though. A Citroen mate down in Melbourne sold these to me cheaply. Notice all the forklift strikes on the crossbars. They probably won't pass workcare safety requirements any longer. 'Cos there deep you can store HEAPS of stuff up at roof level, engine blocks/gearboxes/etc beneath them.



I dug a couple of these walkway tressles out of the ground before we shifted from our last place. The builders had thrown them down the back in the grass 2 years previously with a lot of building scraps a couple of years previously. So I grabbed them and put legs on them. They are VERY strong. you could easily line them with engine blocks.



I made them high enough so you don't have to bend over to work on. Which leaves enough room under them for some rusty old dexion shelving my father inlaw gave me (he was going to chuck it out ).

To try and keep the shed uncluttered, mowers etc... live in a seperate 3 x 3 garden shed. The compressor, sand blaster, parts washer live in a falling down 3x3 garden shed screwed to the side of this shed (you can see the power and air lines coming back through the wall above ). So you have air and can swithc the compressor on/off inside this shed.

Very jealous
Moved out of a property with a 5 bay shed + 2 car garage 12 months ago into a suburban 2 car garage sort of place.

Proximity to the surf is helping though.

One question form the last image, just how many soldering irons do you need?
