How about a high school woodwork bench?
I scored this up on the weekend... What a PITA ... I managed to back the car trailer under it after slinging it from the middle to lift it with an engine crane (it's VERY heavy) ... Then I did the same thing to get it off in my shed ... The bench top is about probably 4" thick with a plywood top sheet (I guess the idea is you change the top sheet as it gets battered).
It's 4meters long ... it was hell of a job to re-arrange the shed to get it in in 33degree heat. I'll probably have everything put back away by the end of the week though. The only problem is of course it's not really high. If that ever bothers me I'll just throw a couple of railway sleepers under it to lift it up.

That's a pretty tough looking bench but we don't have those sort in our schools. I do actually use an old school woodworking bench by Record. It is serving me well at the moment but of course I have to be careful not to put anything oily on it (put down a sheet of ply first).
It is similar to this:
Still trying to find the time to build the work benches and surfaces I need![]()

Yep, that's the Big Beastie I started when I was introduced to electrickery... then graduated to the 'miniscope' for fine electronic work (read: 'Solid-State' as compared to 'Thermionic Toobs'...)
Worth their weight in 'Unobtanium'.
EDIT:- with the factory-manufactured (?) extra-long cable, were designed to operate from 12V, as in mobile/car battery. Cable merely dropped 8 or so Volt along its length...
Elegant, Economical and 100% reliable feature.
