    Bush Fire Season (Tassie)

We have a hot and windy weekend coming up so I'm off to clean out the gutters on the shop. I'm also going to get a crate of spring water in as I was caught out back in 2013 with bugger all to drink + no way of boiling anything as the power was out!
    cheers,
    D

What is the fire danger for this weekend ?

Nothing is showing on the Tas Fire site, and most of Tas appears to have received rain recently.

If the fuels aren't dry then a warm & windy day doesn't present much of a danger.

Nothing wrong with the prep (cleaning gutters etc) but doesn't look like you will need to stockpile water.

Hoping for a bushfire free season.

We're heading down to Tassie again in January for my mum's 80th birthday. Family has booked "The Blue House" in Tarraleah for a get together. Apart from that, we'll be staying at South Arm for about 4 weeks and plan on doing a bit of travelling around / maybe camping depending on the weather.

Was planning on having a look around your area and out around New Norfolk - haven't really seen much of that area in our travels so far.
    Cheers .........

The Tas Fire website is so-so. If you check the Fire Danger Rating page - it says "This Weather information is generated by the Bureau of Meteorology - unfortunately the Bureau is not providing this information at this time". So I go by the Weather Forecast which is predicting 26-30c with high winds. The water is for the whole season - not just this weekend. It wont take long for the place to dry out.

pop in for a cuppa if you like - pm me nearer the time for phone and directions. Otherwise - you will probably want to check out Willow Court Antiques - he has some nice old Vehicles scattered about the place.

We have a house very close to Fort Direction Hodgo. My parents house which my mum is still living in at the moment - but since my father passed away, my mum has a new partner and they have built another house just up the hill which they will eventually move into.

At the moment, we stay in the smaller "new" house when we go down there so as not to cause any inconvenience - it's a nice little octagonal timber place with verandah all the way around. It is on the edge of the farm that is adjoining Fort Direction land - we all get on well with the farmer - I gave him a hand slashing grass last time I was down there, and he is always dropping bags of spuds etc in to my mum.

The plan is to eventually sell up here in Kalgoorlie and move down there permanently.

Haven't been in to the RSL yet - my mum tells me that they serve a good meal there - will have to give it a try. It's a lot closer than the Lauderdale pub.
    Cheers .........

Thanks .............. will take you up on that. Always good to chat with the "locals" - especially if they just happen to be Land Rover people.

My wife has friends who have renovated an old school house out the other side of Sorrell. Until our last trip down there, I had never met them. We went out there for lunch and to have a look at the timber work etc in his renovations (very handy with the tools he is) and another house that they had re-located up onto the hill behind them, which they were doing up to serve as a B&B. Was very pleasing to discover that they are also Land Rover tragics.

We also had the pleasure of meeting WrinkleArthur and a few other members of LROCT at one of their meetings in a new auto accessories shop when we were down there last - was a good night out.
    Cheers .........

    Goodo.
I'm off to Sorrel this weekend to look at some water tanks. One of our old galvanised ones has several pin sized rust holes. They're not going to get any smaller. The Octagonal house sounds interesting.
