Are sunroofs in Australia going out of fashion

I am starting the slow process of up-grading our car and have noticed that there are less sunroofs in cars these days.

I also get the impression that they are no longer a value add accessory, and can in fact reduce the number of people interested in a vehicle (me included).

They don't appeal to me and I don't understand why they were ever popular. I thought they were for a European climate where they don't get enough sunlight and need to be kept warm while they recharge their vitamin D.

I'm no fan of sunroofs, but they still seem to be about - my new work Captiva (base model diesel) had one as standard, next doors new X trail also had one standard.

They will all eventually leak and make the interior stink, or get left open and make the interior stink....

I wouldn't chose to have a sunroof, but have had several vehicles with them.
SWMBO likes leather upholstery, and often the option pack includes leather and sunroof and other stuff.

Rarely open the sunroof, and if we did it was at night.
In the old days, we'd head off to the drive-in movies, get fish n chips and a bottle of bubbles on the way, park up and pop the cork out the sun / moon roof.

I've got a car with a Targa top:
    Babes dig it.
I get the wind in my hair.
    +100 masculinity points
    No 'douchebag factor' like convertibles
Not boring like a 'normal' roof
Guives you a nice sunburn in summer
    1000x better than a sunroof

Sunroofs are also so mainstream. Even those 'moon roof' things, which are basically just a sunroof incognito.

And don't get me started on double sunroofs liek this nissan stagea

Dad specified a factory sunroof on his V8 D2.
The sunroof was a major plus column tick when I bought mine.
Both our outbacks had double sunroofs.
Our current liberty has a sunroof.
    Sunroofs are freaking cool
Hot summer night, cruising along with the sunroof open and some tunes washing over you. Awesome.
My non Land Rover sunroof doesn't leak

Total waste of money, IMHO. Doubly so on a Land Rover product... as it is leaking..or was leaking...or WILL leak (again) in the near future.

My '95 Classic Vague SE has one... and yes, it leaks, and it makes some noise at speed. Any speed above 60km/h.

Oddly enough, every other Oriental car I've been in that's had one...has not leaked, or made wind-noise when closed.

If you feel the need to see directly upwards... buy a modern car, where the raked windscreen finishes behind you...

Dunno why Land Rover persisted with them - A sheet of glass fixed into the hole with the inner shield to block the sun, is a more workable approach.

Love my sunroof. My d2 has one and my d1 doesn't. I paid to have a Webasto fitted over 10 years ago to the d2 and use it all the time. Does wonders to bring the outside in and draw air up and out. The V8 sounds great with the roof open.
    Cheers
