    Help to save lives.

This is a campaign that effects our family directly.

We have 2 type one diabetic kids, my 9 year old son and my 3 year old daughter. This device does and has helped stop serious harm occuring in our daughter who is far more volatile in her sugar levels than her brother.
Basically if your blood sugars fall to low you can go into a coma and die as happened to this teenager, alternatively if they are to high it does long term damage to your body (eyes, nerves, heart, circulation)and to those untreated diabetics can also slip into a come caused by ketones building up.
We have one of these monitors and last night was a perfect example of why they need govt support, we did the normal finger test at 1130 pm, she was bordering on a low at 4.2 BGL, normal range for everyone else is 4-8 blood glucose level, so we gave her some choc milk which normally would boost her levels until morning. The alarm on the dexcom went off at 1am, she was 3.2 Again milk which should take far longer to digest, then alarm again at 2am, back to 3.4BGL ! Then I get up at 3 am to test her and her brother and she's already back down to 4.1BGL, so I give her 2 gluco jelly beans which put her up to a high of about 10 , but she was still back at 4.5 by 7am. Whereas my son was 7.7 at 1130pm, and 6.5 at both 3 am and 7am.
Without this monitor the choices are we get up every hour to test her, or otherwise she could have had a seizure or passed away! The problem is last week here levels where much more stable like her older brother, so without the monitor we would have had no idea she was so unstable and could have ended up in a far worse place.
Whilst they are not a cheap item to buy or use , the money they save on reduced hospital time woul easily pay for them.
Could more people pass this onto local members to get some action please.

    Thanks, Mattthew.

Hope only for the best for you and your kids in this mate.

Neighbour a couple of doors up lost their daughter to this a while back - she was a lovely kid - went to school with our daughter and used to spend a lot of time around here after school while both parents were at work.

Have passed on this link to our local federal member and asked him to push the issue as much as he can.
    Cheers .........

Mathew, have you thought of starting a petition on https://www.change.org.
They seem to get a good deal of traction with things like your issue. Iwish you the very best with it.

Hi Matthew, I saw something about this on Q&A last week.

I think publicity is growing in this area. The mother who spoke was inspirational and I think the numbers quoted indicated that of the number of sufferers worldwide was a country, it would be as big as China. I may not be 100% accurate in recall, but it was quite an eye opener.

Best of luck with your situation, from one parent to another.
