The problem with ergonomics on the Defender is largely the problem I mentioned above - the dimensions were set in 1958 when most people were smaller and things like air conditioning were not even dreamt of. To make any significant changes involves changing these dimensions, or the basic design - which involves not only major retooling, but loses commonality of parts with past vehicles (which is one of the Defenders attractions).
Personnally I have no problem with the handbrake in my 110 - but I have the thinner doors, so there is more room all round, at the expense of doors that rattle all the time.
Biggest problem I have with the design of my 110 is all the plastic bits that fall to pieces after a few years in the sun. Compares very unfavourably with my 2a that has almost no plastic. Long distance driving the think I like least is the noise levels, partly this is the Isuzu engine, but most of it is wind noise, and it is hard to see how this can be substantially reduced without changing the basic design - and lets face it - is wind noise really a major design criterion for this type of vehicle? Any more than off road ability is for a Commodore?
