i went to repair shops Brit Parts , Rover Tech , Discovery Auto's .... went into Southern Landrover and spoke to their tech's ..... went to Robson Bro's , Magic Nissan .... so i think i made an informed decision :wink:

The quote was as above. Nothing has a total track record of being bullet proof.

I saw a Nissan CV tear itself to **** just this weekend passed.

Rover stuff breaks too I know. NOTHING IS UNBREAKABLE!

BTW, D110V8, I agree nothing is unbreakable.
We can't escape the fact that L/R aren't as strong in the driveline as Nissan. We've all heard of far too many axles, Rover diffs and late model super small 32 spline CV's spitting the dummy.
Land Rover have dumbed down to the extent that the Sals diff has been dropped for a 2 pin Rover rear in the 110 and 130. :roll:
I'd trust a Nissan semi floater GU diff more, thanks, then on the leaf sprung cab chassis they use an absolutely massive full floater. :wink:

Of course all this stuff can be upgraded, but really, should we continually have to foot the bill for inadequate engineering compared to the opposition ?
I've noticed that Nissan have upgraded (bigger diameter) their tie rods/track rods compared to the early GU's. The GU CV is bigger than the GQ (although the stub is the same size, guess where they will break now)
Land Rover still have a piece of spaghetti for a track rod and that dumb aluminium channel under the diff after twenty years of production. Their engineers know they bend, an ex Aussie JRA engineer told me if I ever bought one, that should be one of the first mods to do, and it's something they did to all the Army stuff, yet the UK wouldn't change it.
Of course I forked out the dough for a set of Maxi steering arms and axles, yet all I've done is make it as strong as a Nissan.
It's in the same vein as the newer narrow hubs compared to a 110 County, the CV's as mentioned, etc, etc.
Nissan have made their beast stronger, Land Rover weaker, then they wonder why sales fall ??

Sorry for the rant, its just bloody Land Rover, they take a great concept and.... :roll:

There is no reason why anything should break, sure somethings will take more punishment than others. The fact remains that you dont brake things unless you are doing something stupid, or the vehicle is heavily modded with bigger tyres etc, like maggots, as there is alot more power transferred through these bits to turn the tyres, then you have the added force of the increased grip from the larger tyres. If you leave a vehicle relatively standard and dont go to crazy with tyres etc, be sensible in off road situations, and dont push the vehicle that little bit harder when its clearly not going anywhere and maintain your vehicle things generally dont brake. i have a 130 with discs my drive flanges are still good.. and i have now done 200 000km.
Track rod still good..
Put a locker in a nissan i bet i can snap something too..
My 130CC with 200 000km aint cracked..
