The Win98SE computer I'm answering from is on the same network as my prime PC (laptop, Win XP) that has the most problem. They connect via a Netgear router to an Optusnet cable modem.Originally posted by CraigE
I dont think it would be your computer but probablly your modem or internet connection or phone line. If you can borrow a lap top try that on your connection and see if it is any better if not it is the line, if it is it is probabbly your modem or maybe even some sort of software conflict or firewall protection.
I tend not to use this computer as the monitor screen is only useful up to a maximum of 800x600 and pages on this site are often wider thus requiring one to always scroll - and it's older and much slower than the laptop.
I have the same problem with invalid_sessions with the laptop if I dial in when disconnected from the network.
I've tried turning the Norton firewall off but to no avail (the Win XP) firewall is off.
Both PCs are running Norton Internet Security and Personal Firewall.
I can't see how to configure NIS to tell it that this is a trusted site as suggested by Incisor in the FAQ section.
My office computer is a Windows CE terminal (slow as heck owing to the lack of any real cache) that connects to a Win 2000 server network. With it, I've always assumed the invalid_sessions were due to the server clock running 3 minutes late compared with the Telstra standard clock we use for everything else - changing the time on the terminal is disabled so I can't test that.

I cant post at work, the departments internet connection is a pain in the bum. I have endless problems posting on Overlander, i have to log in and re-type my post at lest 3 times before it post, and i can never quote because when it asks me to log again i loose the quoted info, i eventually get it but it is a pain. When i use my laptop at home or use Stacey's PC (exactly the same settings as at school) i have no problems. I get invalid session on my laptop at school but not at home. Matt

Try this little trick before you go. Before preview/send your message temporarly disable Norton Antivirus. Once disabled send your message. Make sure afterwards that you re-enable it. This worked for me the last few times, I had similar frustrations. I didn't turn off Norton I just disabled it (Not sure if its the same) I'm running XP and Norton 2005 Internet Security. I'm sure there is a way to create a rule within Norton to allow this site to be accessed without disabling, but I haven't played with this yet or had the time to work it out.
Hope this helps

Never had an "invalid session" The only problem I have is as soon as I go into a forum, the scroll bar tabs change to the same colour as the scroll bars, which makes it a bit difficult, but live withable. OK on the rest of the website, and I've tried changing colour schems, to no avail. But then I don't use Windows.

G'day Ron, the above message I get when I try to post a reply to a forum, at the top of the page underneath the header page title.
The info here below is where the review is normally shown.
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: opentable() in /usr/home/aulro/public_html/mainfile.php on line 236
If I try and post a reply with both lots of text showing, I get the invalid session message too, but if when i post a reply I 'refresh' the reply page after it first comes up so that the review is shown as it should be then the reply will be successful. This is a new Desktop PC running XPHome, both my Dell laptops run XP Pro and they are fine. They use AVG antivirus anf the desktop uses Norton. Next time you reply, click reply then after the page loads click refresh and it might be OK.
Hope this helps, will be sorry to see you go!
Cheers Scott.
:x Its a pain but I persist. I get the same messages etc, tried the FAQ etc.
New posts are virtually impossible. But I keep hammering away at it. :?
I also use XP, 2005 NIS, and I have no intention of changing them. XP is great and NIS is protecting my laptop.
Pain Pain, but I enjoy the forum and the people.

I've tried the refresh route but to no avail. I've tried exiting that forum and re-entering it. I've learned to copy what I've typed so I can paste it again for the next attempt.Originally posted by rangie5litre

A couple of nights ago I couldn't make a single post. I can only post from this old PC, not from my new(ish) laptop.

Ron,
I had this header info when I first joined AULRO but it has since disappeared.
But there must be some IT guru's out there which can sort out a solution to Rons problem. I am amazed for a guy who has posted 1,126 times to have put up with it for so long...my computer would have been out in the street by now :x
I cannot give give you any further help as I am running Win 98 on a PentiumIII - 400ops: so I don't even make the field as a IT guru
We just don't want to see you lose touch and not contribute to this forum.
I just made this a trusted site and got the fatal error message in the topic review window again. :?
Back out and in again, topic review shows up, now it will post.
As I only get a line speed of 1.3kbps (yes 1.3kbps!), and I have to post everything twice, or more, my dedication to this site is amazing!!!!!! 8O
Even the Defender is quicker.
