Hi Phoenix, unfortunately that’s not the experience I have had with overthetop’s forum.

I have had a number of subjects removed, including one that explained how I got some advice from one of overthetop’s editors that finally convinced me to buy an LR and when I asked this editor why he said that the Discovery was the best 4x4 in it’s class while his mag had just done a comparison of 5 4x4s and guess which one the mag wrote up as the best.

The problem is that unless you see the article before it’s pulled, you never know it was ever there.

His answer was a ripper too.

Cheers.

This is exactly what happened with the Land Rover Enthusiast forum. LRE (the mag) kept jumping up and down and making life hell for the mods if there was even mild criticism of the mag.
Overlander Magazine have never commented to the moderators about any criticisms on the forum about the magazine as far as I know. They included that section a few months/years? ago to gain feedback on what was working or why it wasn't. Gregor the travel editor was always on the forum looking at this amonst other things, and Matt the editor frequents the forum also. Shame about LRE, they could have used it to improve their product.

About 8 or 9 years ago, I decided that I wanted a 4x4 and at the time I had my heart set on getting a Jeep so I went off to my local Chrysler dealer and had a look at a Jeep, just one jeep and just a look.
It was that bloody small that I would have needed a shoe horn to get in to it.

That cured me of anything to do with Jeeps and I spent the next 3 or 4 months looking around at different 4x4s.

I was taking to a mate at work, at the time I was a driver on the railways and the mate was a Quippy ( a breakdown response electrician ) and the last person I would have thorough to be interested in 4x4s.
Interested! He owned a Range Rover and test drove 4x4s for Overland Mag when they needed drivers.

He told me to have a look at a Discovery and I said “a WHAT?”

Anyway, about a month later, I get a phone call from one of the editors of Overland who said he had been taking to my mate and as stated above he recommends the Discovery is the best bet and when I asked him why he says this when his mag had put the Toyota 1 point ahead in the article he answers “Simple Toyota advertise in the mag and Land Rover does not.”

Not surprising and that is just about word for word what I posted in a thread late one night on overthetop forum and by the next morning my posting was gone. :?

Cheers and I can thank my mate and the Overland editor for getting me involved with the best 4x4xfar!

Its is comments like the 4th post here that are totally unecessary. I am thick skinned like aquarangie said, but its unecessary comments like these that really **** me off. In the end it comes down to respecting the rights of others to drive what they want.

When my wife told my son (Bucko on the Overlander forum) that she was the model in the pix, he asked if I'd fitted heavy duty suspension to the County. Cheeky bugger!

Land Rovers don't need heavy duty suspension. Oops, don't tell Elisabeth I said that.
