Flag Alpha can be flow for divers not fishing. Snorkelling is diving. I put Alpha up before I get into the water. I assume many boats go for a swim when anchored as described and would also assume many boats have a Dive mask and snorkel ready to wear even if they don;t due to being harassed by PWCs . NSW law in inshore waters [ame="http://maritimemanagement.transport.nsw.gov.au/documents/mmc-dive-safe-strategy-2014.pdf"]states[/ame]
"......there are no regulations in place governing the use of floats and flags by divers who operate from a shoreline. While RMS Boating Safety Officers (BSOs) educate boat users on the water, the focus is mostly on general boating safety campaigns" It would help prosecution not be the reason for prosecution.

Best still water police are probably just as fed up chasing the few PWCs who are tossers around and may appreciate the flag for swimmers in the water even if they are mostly on top. Many PWC riders are fine. We only get to see the ones who get in our faces while breaking several boating regs.

Have to mention a very angry lady in Port Fairy Vic a few years ago who insisted I was breaking the law dropping off and picking up kids from a beach on a ski tube once. Under five knots to and from the beach and always well clear of swimmers. I had to wait to allow her to wade 200m over for her to shout at me I think she mistook me for a PWC which was upsetting everyone. She even called the police to report my low speed offences. Police man and I agreed she needed a holiday from her holiday. Her kids asked for a ride and got one I think she could have been even more grumpy about them but I stopped waiting for her to come to me to shout at me after the first time. (The kids & dad was a nice chap poor chap )

I think they are designed for people with no skill (let's see them on a surf board, etc) who want to show-pony & look "cool". The sound is annoying & they clog up boat ramps. The water used to be such a peaceful place to be.....rant over

Interesting discussion......I too dislike jet ski (from my water ski days)

In saying that I went out in a mates boat for some off shore fishing.........both of us got our boat licence at 16..,,nearly 30 years ago. I doubt either of us would know what flags meant.

We do give all boats a wide berth, don't be dickheads and remember the basic to motor around safely (give way to sail boats, give way to anything bigger than you.....the red/green marker are easy)

Just hand them some home made travel flyers encouraging them to go to the Top End to use their toys.
Crocs and Sharks might appreciate the variety.

You obviously haven't driven one then! Especially not a stand up.

They require power to steer, a very difficult concept to grasp for most punters, which is why there are so many crashes.

Not that I am encouraging the use of them...

Jetski's are a bit like really noisy dirt bikes. The only person who is having fun is the person riding them. Everyone else hates you. I'm reminded of a Leunig cartoon from years back. I cut it out and gave it to a mate who had a jet ski.

Ode To A Jet-Ski Person was written by Michael Leunig and comes from Poems 1972-2002, published by Viking.

    Ode To A Jet-Ski Person

    Jet-ski person, selfish fink,
    May your silly jet-ski sink,
May you hit a pile of rocks,
    Oh Hoonish, summer, coastal pox.

    Noisy, smoking, dickhead fool
    On your loathsome leisure tool,
Give us all a jolly lark
And sink beside a hungry shark.

Scream as in its fangs you go,
    Your last attention-seeking show,
While on the beach we all join in
With "Three cheers for the dorsal fin!"

Yes. Much like Harley riders and their noisy bikes.

(Disclaimer: I used to ride a dirt bike 40+ years ago but in the bush around Ceduna and Carnarvon - and it still had the stock exhaust.)

Don't get me started on Harley's!!
Hey- Everyone is entitled to have fun. Some people are just not self aware enough to realise that their "fun" is annoying others. At least with dirt bikes, there is usually not swimmers bobbing in and out of bushes!
