Ever since their inception I've referred to them as "Wankmobiles" although I do know a couple of blokes who have theirs set up for fishing & I have to say that they're pretty schmick & an excellent fishing platform but, unfortunately, they're an extremely minor group!

Decided to spend New Year's Day with family and friends on my boat having a picnic in Pitwatter near Barrenjoey. There were about 20 boats all anchored up having a swim and generally a good time.

Then they arrived. About 6 or seven jetskis racing around between the boats and chucking donuts and jumping each other's wake. Some were close to kids in kayaks and stand up paddleboards.

I put up with this for about 1/2 an hour then thought enough is enough. I smiled at one guy close to my boat and motioned him to come over. When he came in I pointed out that maybe the boats up here having a quiet picnic did not particularly want to listen or watch them showing what a pack of imbeciles they were. There is the whole of Pitwatter and the Hawkesbury to ride without giving people the ****s.

This chap, who happened to be of middle eastern appearance then launched into a tyraid of abuse and swearing threatening to get 20 of his mates and come back and ride around my boat as well as yelling out it was his right to ride where ever he wanted.

I told him to get as many as he wants and I will just make a short call to the Water Police and have them waiting when they get back.

This is not the first time I have had words with jetski riders on the water while fishing, cutting across my bow when coming into the bar at Forster, pulling onto the boat ramp out of turn and riding close to the beach and swimmers.

The best thing ever was banning them from Sydney Harbour. I am sure they are fun to ride but is seems that the guys that ride them seem to think everyone else is interested in how cool they are so they have to ride next to you to show you. I am also afraid that all of the ones that I have had run ins with are middle eastern and have attitude to burn.

Anyway he or his mates did not come back and we had a very pleasant time for the rest of the day
Toss up Flag Alpha on your boat before you call the water police

Just have your snorkel stuff ready.

I have Alpha on a float while diving as well as on the boat. Most boats and PWCs keep clear. Oddly it is really only a legal obligation if on the boat not on a float attached to me.

In summer scallop diving can be dangerous in Port Philip Bay.

Announce a flare and rocket test to the water police. Put Flag Bravo up first

How many sea camel pilots do you seriously think would know what that meant, or take any notice of it whatsoever?

Most of them can't even grasp the concept of Port and Starboard!

yes, you are alowed but only for a short time before and after a planned dive.

My guess is its 30 minutes before the first diver enters the water and 30 minutes after the last diver exits the water after the last dive in the area, so if you're doing 2 2 hour dives and have a 90 minute surface time between...........(I personally would put it up 30 minutes before and pull it 10 minutes after but wouldnt leave it up between unless I was amongst a group of boats that still had divers down)
