Suggestions?...... Camping spot within couple hours of Sydney

    Hello all,

Not sure if I'm in the right spot (doubt it, but not sure where to post), but I am looking for a weekend spot around Sydney that I could take my wife, dog (well mannered), and trusty deefer for a quiet bush camping trip to enjoy some piece and quite......any suggestions would be very welcome.

Do you just want to drive in and camp in one nice spot or are you wanting to do some interesting 4wdriving as well?
    Cheers,
    Terry

    Thanks TerryO,
I would be happy with either! Additionally, whether its beach, open meadow, or mountains, I would just like a nice/ quiet spot(s) to enjoy the vista......and getting to 'stretch' my landy's legs wouldn't hurt either.

Do you need facilities or are you comfortable with true bush camping? (spade to dig hole for loo etc)

There are endless opportunities to discover in the Blue Mtns National Park (from lower mtns (Glenbrook) to Newnes and Yerranderie), Yengo National Park, the Watagan and other State Forest/s (State Forests are "pet friendly") -

more than you could stay at in a lifetime -

if you give us some more specific points about what are you looking for it may help - otherwise as others have suggested - just go and look

The dog is a problem in National Parks, they aren't allowed. There is good secluded bush camping in Marrangaroo NP but with no facilities, Ambercrombie River NP has several campgrounds. Maybe Newnes across the river or Bowtells Swingbridge on the 6 foot track? Plenty of spots around the Turon River but you need to check if the dog is allowed.
I forgot to add, Blacksmith's Beach allows camping but now requires a permit. You can camp at Samurai Beach up past Stockton for free but no facilities and not sure about the dog.

Thank you all for the suggestions so far.....

I have camped Blacksmith's and Samurai before....maybe I'm due to camp there again.
Due south of Ulladulla has some good little trails that lead off to the beaches, but I'm looking for something that would be a little closer to Sydney.
I haven't camped in the Watagan's area, but happy for any suggestions.

I am avoiding the National Parks since I have a dog, and don't want to leave her home for a weekend while my wife and I are off playing.

Has anyone found any little gems around Jervis Bay?
How about some pretty spots down around Bowral, Berrima, or Mittagong?

If I'm being picky/ more specific:
    1. Within a couple hours drive of Sydney centre (southern highlands, Blues, central coast, south coast)
    2. Dog friendly
    3. Scenic quality- basically, not a trashed patch of earth that looks like every punter in town has visited before.
    4. If getting to the spot requires locking the centre diff, then all-that-much-better!

.....anyways, I will continue to study the maps for potentials, and do some weekend reconnaissance trips until I find something closer

    THANK YOU ALL
