You're right Chucaro. The topic has broadened to become about ownership vs shared use of space, as a result of some people finding it abhorrent that cyclists have the right to be respected as relatively vulnerable road users by drivers of big heavy 4WD vehicles. Sharing public space with an attitude of respect, care and consideratation for difference is my position. Cheers

The concept of ownership, of who owns public roads specifically, is a red herring. The road infrastructure is there. There are rules as to who and what can use them.

Those rules establish what are the rights and responsibilities for road users, including cyclists, when using those roads.

Outside of an expectation that cyclists will observe their responsibilities and be accorded their rights under existing road rules - what more is it that you, MrLandy, expect or believe should be accorded to cyclists? Please share some explicit points.

Yes it is shocking and it appears especially so to drivers like you and me who have never been guilty of even a moment's inattention or carelessness and have never been distracted by anything while we are driving.

It is just as well that there are some of us who are perfect and infallible and are able to set a standard of diligence and care that other mere mortals can only aspire to.

Thanks for admitting you're perfect vnx205. I have to admit that I'm perfect too. That is why I still have three whole points on my licence, and my file at RPA is only one meter thick.
