I've known Ross for a number of years and really like the guy , he still doesn't know if his attempt will be at Lake Gairdner , but he is hoping to have a go this year.

I'll be there , supporting , even if only cleaning the dunnies.

Would be cool if they could run aussie invader in with the rest of speedweek, but would I be incorrect in assuming that it would be a big ask to run amonst the rest of the events? I would assume that it would be more suitable to a standalone event?

Rosco needs to have about 10km of high grade surface just to make a safe pass.

On the actual day he runs , any general public will be so far away you will hardly even see it visually.

I compete at Lake Gairdner. This will be my 4th year as a competitor, the first year I was a spectator.

I ride an RGV 250 Suzuki and have held the class record for 3 years. Officially the fastest 250 in Australia. A lot of time is spent researching before anything is implemented on the bike. As the event is only run once a year and we dont have a chance to practice you dont want to do what I did last year and have a blow up on my first run.

Not long to go till I find out if I have found out what the problem was.

Digger, that would be Graham Ward? Top bloke and very good at what he does.

The long track is 9 miles long so plenty of room to get wound up.

The best viewing is from the canteen-bar that is on the shoreline and quite elevated.

The Canteen on a quiet day.

View of the pits from the Canteen. You can see the Timing Van out past the pits. The cars and bikes run just this side of that. The pits are 200 mts from the course and about 2 miles from the start line that is out of frame to the left.

My bike is ready, just have to pack the van and Disco. We leave on Saturday and racing starts on Monday.

    Heres the current Course layout.

Our home for the week. You can see the Lake from our camp and see the sunset over it each night.

Indeed it is. Our Brigade Captain for close to 30 years and now the group officer. And a self confessed petrol head!

Thanks for your info South Oz.

Is skin protection a major consideration during the event? Salt and Sun?

Having been to Lake Eyre many times I have found it to be very harsh on the skin and eyes.

I assume Gairdner would be the same.

How much fresh water do you take?

Ill work on a trip report when I get back. As for water we take 100 lts + buy a slab of bottles of drinking water to throw in the Disco for on the road type stuff. Lot cheaper than buying from servos.

You could live out of the Canteen, and some ppl do but we take all our food and beer to keep the costs down. We have a cpl of meals at the canteen during the week.

You have to be self sufficient with pretty well everything, has been known to take a week longer to get out because of road closures.

Here's a Pic of my bike on the salt from last year
