    Boys and toys

My boy has been practicing being a temporary aussie for almost a year now steering a 250cc Hyosan. He only has had 1 minor spill in the 12 months sliding into a car on an oily wet road.He had mentioned recently that he had been getting lessons for a big bike licence.
He and his lady came to visit last nite as he needed papers to get his passport sorted for a weeks holiday in Bali after his next swing on the mine(his last for the uni xmas break).
I asked how he was going with his bike lessons, great he says, just waiting to sit my test in 3 weeks.
Next question was,I suppose you are going to buy a big bike now.
Well he already had,the day before.A 2012(I think) Susuki GSX-R 1000.Tells me they do 170kmh in first, and with the factory limiter removed 330kmh flat out
I assured him he will only drop it once at that speed
Fortunately Lindsay has a pretty level head,he would save sillynes for the race track where he is slightly safer.

Good luck with it. As a parent whose daughter got tipped off a fast moving thing, it's definitely something to have great respect for. My daughter got tipped off a galloping horse when a baby galah flew up off the track into the horses face. A 100mm crack in the back of her skull and broken vertebrae from where the horse ran over her, and yes she had a helmet on. Over two years healing time.
It's not always down to your skill and attention.

    Justin.
Im not even going to try.
He is an adult,we treated him like an adult as a kid. Those who have had anything to do with him will agree,he is way wiser than most 22 year olds, even more so than some 30 to 40 year olds I know.
All we can do is hope he keeps his head screwed on properly,he is in charge of his own destiny.

Lindsay's one of the few young fellows who I'd trust on a rocket like that, he does have his head screwed on right.

HAte to say it, but I'm 40 and have the Defender and a Yamaha R1. Different vehicles and journeys obviously. I still do dumb **** on the R1 on and off the track. Yep he'll have a crack at 300. You just have to know what it feels like.

Hopefully he wears some decent gear. I still cringe when I see kids with no gloves and shorts on scooters, let alone sports bikes.

12 months ago he rang and asked was it ok to buy a bike and get a licence.
I told him you are almost 21 why are you asking us???? We cant stop you you are an adult.
I chatted to him about being much more well adjusted than the ordinary young blokes. All I asked is he bought the best protective gear and wear it and buy the proper insurance. He did and when he had his 1 off he thanked me he didnt get a scratch, despite taking the rear 1/4 panel out of a car and his footpeg slashing the tyre.Lesson learnt insurance paid out.

I still have a brain fart when I get on a fast bike, my excuse is lack of muscle control in the right wrist. The Honda 1000 in the shed belongs to my son and he rides with more care than me. I do all right on a big cruiser though so maybe the **** farting excuse for a seat is the cause. Hope he stay safe andy
    cheers

One thing my dad taught me as he road bikes too when i moved off dirt bikes to road bikes at the tender age of 17

Is treat everyone on the road as if they are out to get you

This has worked well for me in a very long time without a single accident with a car . Mind you i have come off by my self due to being dumb and silly

I still ride and still enjoy as does swmbo and ill ride for many more years to come
Swmbo is 52 and considering getting her bike learners as she enjoys riding she wants her own bike
