By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I could never work out who was the worst on the road.
Volvo drivers or those blue rinse set little old ladies with lawn bowl uniforms driving Morris 1100's. Seemed to be the car of choice when I was younger

I don't think Volvo's are the problem... It does seem that there are an awful lot of people here who genuinely have no idea of some of the basic road rules.. Merging, lane positioning and etiquette, how to use roundabouts etc etc.. How many Excells, and Festivas do we see sat in the outside lane, driving at 70 in an 80 zone with a petrified mother at the wheel!!? So many 'normal' drivers spend 90% of their time worrying about what the speed limit is now, and are they under it instead of driving safely and looking at the conditions around them, yet whilst this is all going on the idiot teen has the back wheels alight again, and is weaving in and out of traffic going unnoticed. Bit over it to be honest! Sadly SA has become a real 'Nanny State' where the average driver seems to get penalised with daft rules aimed at the hoons who really don't care!

Anyway, here's a Volvo 740 Wagen (that were available in the UK and Europe with a Volkswagen 2.4 litre 6 cylinder turbo Diesel engine) being flogged around in the snow! These motors sounded awesome, and went quite well for a 2.4. I even fitted one into a Series 2.. (Purely for the sound it made!!!!). The latter half of the video has the best sound!!

I have been to the Parramatta Speedway many times for the Demo Derby and the number that have been won by Volvo Station Wagons is incredible. Even with all the springs jutting out, two flat tyres and steam ****ing out of them they still move belt and bash

Photo taken of a Police warning sign just outside of Williams in WA a little while back.

And here's the specially modified version of a Volvo wagon for caravanners ...

Never been a big fan of Volvo's myself, but if some distant relative were to leave me one of these .................. I would be a very happy chap.

Better still, a wagon variant - either the ES GT or the ZES concept would do me very nicely. One of the best looking cars I've ever seen on the road, and so definitely nothing like a fridge. I saw one of these on the road in Perth recently - was the first one I'd seen in many years.

I'd be happy to be seen out and about in any of these ............
    Cheers .........
