wtf.
Ian and I agree on something.
In Queensland over seventeen and a half thousand drivers were pinged for exceeding the speed limit, over the Easter break. During the same period we had zero fatalities. Will the government now admit that "every kay over is NOT a killer", just a revenue stream?
If exceeding the statutory limit is dangerous, why are most infringements from flash-for-cash, with the driver not being aware of the breach for days or weeks later? If the situation is dangerous, authorities have a duty of care to stop the situation immediately. The same responsibility every worker has in a dangerous situation, STOP THE JOB.

Can't argue with the figures, less speeding drivers, less deaths.Roughly 17,700 drivers were nabbed going over the limit this year, compared to more than 23,000 in 2015.
I think the figures can be presented to support arguments from both sides.![]()

I'm not trying to condone exceeding the limit. I take umbrage at governments, of all persuasion, taking me for a fool, expecting me to believe their lies about enforcement being for safety. Be honest, it's pure revenue raising.
The highest speed recorded, over the holiday, was a tad under 200 kph in a 110 zone. That driver will be deservedly on shank's pony for a while.
As a motorcyclist and driver of a heavy vehicle I face various challenges in traffic, I should be able to assume that traffic is travelling within a few kilometres an hour, of the limit.
For this reason I personally endeavour to comply with speed limits, but with all the things that require attention whilst driving, it is easy to inadvertently exceed the limit by 10%, a margin that is not unreasonable.
There are many more behaviours on the road that are far more dangerous than minor speeding offences, but probably no where near as lucrative.

I agree with Ian. Most driver drive to the conditions, and many speed limits are farcical. In Balmain/Rozelle, East of Victoria Rd the speed limit is 40. West of Victoria Rd where the conditions are identical, The limit is 50. Why? In Stanmore where the conditions are worse and most drivers travel at around 45, the limit in some Streets is 60. WHY?
You could take all the signs away and the road toll would remain the same.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
