Today was a sad day in our household as we had to let our 17yo British shorthair cat go for the long sleep.
She has had weak renal organs for a time and after a routine tooth clean and checkover she quickly declined over a period of 48hrs. She lost her vision and developed some neurological symptoms such as staggering/ walking stiffly and squeaking for no reason.
We have had her since a kitten which if any of you have seen a british shorthair youd agree that they are possibly the cutest of all the cat breeds as kittens as they have a triple coat and long guard hairs giving them the look of a ball of fluff...😆.
My youngest who is now just 18 was only 1 when she arrived home in a cardboard box which quickly became a home for her while she discovered her new family.
We are left with Many wonderful memories of a naughty, scratching, purring ,food stealing, upholstery destroying ,baby rabbit killing ,sneaking under the blankets on cold nights and standing on my keyboard while trying to type posts on AULRO four legged member of the family.
So it's goodbye to a very much loved and unique cat that we were fortunate to have in our lives for 17 years☺

I'm 57 (going on 23) and have had 4 dogs as part of that since I was about 2.
The first 3 all lived to 17, and I sadly buried each when their time was up. They were a big part of my life.
The latest is now about 8, half mastiff half black lab (some woman in Tas breeds them), insanely intelligent and consistently weighs in at the annual vet check at 58 kgs. 2yo when I got him.
Don't think he'll see 17, too big. He's about all I've got atm.
IME, pure chance, when one of these dogs died another would materialise as a pup or a little older through some sort of mystical deal a couple of months later.
Never any money involved and they never have had any weird problems.

Yeah we have two cats that we "inherited" from our youngest daughter who couldn't keep them because she is renting. Not a cat person either but I have taken to them as they have personalties of their own.
Always sad when a pet eventually "goes" through old age after being with you for many years.

Just gut wrenching JC, I'm so sorry to hear this.
They take a piece of your heart when they have to leave, but they've always left you their own.
Makes me cry.
