    MoveLater2 Just bought a Disco 2

    G'day Guys and Gals

I just bought a Discovery 2, 2002 model, SE V8. It is the top of the range with all the bells and whistles. 140,000km on the clock, one owner with comprehensive Land Rover service history done by ULR Melbourne. I payed $9,888 Drive away.

I love this car I have always wanted a Land Rover, although I would have preferred a Defender I had to think of the family. One of the main reasons I bought it was for the 3500kg towing capacity seeing as we will be towing a caravan to QLD next year. The other reason is that it's a 7 seater. And for the legendary off road capability.

Just a few questions seeing as I am new to the LR scene. I assume that the kms on the clock is good for it's age? And what sort of off road upgrades can I make to this car to 1 make it better off road and 2 to make it look tougher?

Everything works fine except the drivers seat adjustment control is buggered, is this an easy fix? And the LR DVD player. The screen turns on and I can select AV1 & AV2 & NTSC & PAL but the player itself turns on but the disc won't spin or read and now it won't eject. Anyone else had this problem?

Probably the single best you can make is to add the CDL that was omitted by LR, have a search for PhillipA's guide on this as he has done this mod recently.
A 2" lift and some decent AT tyres will go you most places, tough is a matter of opinion like that piece of string argument.

If you get a 2" lift go up to 31 or 32" tyres. You need to cut the rear guards (search " land rover camel cut") and adjust the steering stops but other than that it will be sweet. i found them heaps better than standatd rubber for off road work.

As for tough, get black steel rims and some black flares.

    Cheers

    ^^ correct.
A mild rolling of the guards can help, MR LR has done this but its not a must-do.

    Do none of the above.
spend your money on a second transmission cooler, a new set of radiator hoses, a new 86deg thermostat, an auto service with syn fluid, new tyres and a RACQ gold membership.

I wouldn't say do none of them Pedro, but preventative maintenance and proactive measures for towing should definitely take priority

^^^ no need for anything else.
If you had one thing only to choose, then CDL would be it.
