Comfort food for winter - Pea and ham soup

Winter is approaching and pea and ham soup or German Lentil soup. Thanks to Continental and other stock cube producers that for some reason has deleted Bacon Stock cubes from their products. Nothing like a couple of bacon stock cubes to give the soup a bit more flavor. Beats endless hours of boiling bacon bones, which are quite expensive to buy.
I have searched high and low in supermarkets and none to be found in Australia.
But there is a supply , in fact the only supply in Australia. Unfortunately it's only avail in 1KG lots.

Have checked the Halal lists, and I can't see Continental on it, so its not from that they've stopped doing it,, so I've got no idea. Maybe a quick letter to them to find out why, and maybe where you can get it from. They'll have answers to both those questions.

For your immediate fix, just fry up a bit of bacon to go with your soup. Nothing better than some crunchy bits in there too
    Me, Pumpkin soup,,, yumm

I did email Continental a while back and was told they would not be making them anymore. no real reason.

Ooooooh, pee in the ham soup. One of my favourites as a kid.

When we lived in Germany, Dad used to make it with Kassler. A big hot bowl of that after getting off the school bus in winter....real stick-to-your-ribs kind of cooking.

I used the ham bone from christmas last night...
Big batch of home made baked beans in ham sauce.

Boiled a bag of borlotti beans and red kidney beans and a can of 5 bean mix in a pressure cooker with a big jar of pasaata, tomatos, and water. Spices were cumin, paprika, liquid smoke and some mustard seeds. Ham bone was cooked with the mix and the remaining ham shredded off the bone and mixed thru.

Came up pretty darn good. God help any mofo who is around me tomorrow...
