Modern vehicles have probably become more vulnerable as they have become more airtight.

I bet they would not have found it so easy to move a Series Land Rover in the same depth of water.

Nevertheless it was quite an impressive demonstration and it is to be hoped that it will open some people's eyes to the risk they take attempting to drive through floodwaters.

One thing that people may forget about is the effect of the fuel tank particularly a long range tank.
    I had a 130 l tank in my 77RRC.
We had a practical joker in the Range rover club who ran a day trip in Yalwal many years ago when it was open. We had driven 5 hours up the creek and over the old station when we came to the last crossing which was over a metre deep so going back was not an option .

He went through in his VM diesel RRC, which was ****box.

I taped up the windscreen vent , the bonnet sides and doors and with over the bonnet the rear started to float as the LR tank was only 1/4 full and the buoyancy lifted it up. Luckily the front found some traction and I pulled through, with water spurting out of my gear lever and handbrake boots.

A long night ensued drying ECUs and drying out interiors where water through the vents had swamped lots of stereos.

    WEIGHT FACTOR

What most you don't realize is that 1 cubic meter of water weighs one tonne, and with the rate of the water flow (speed) it multiplies the weight much more as the water builds up against the side or front of any vehicle. and as the above post flotation is never thought about by many
