let me tell the story of how easy it is to get it wrong and ostrisize yourself from a group of your closest friends. I think I've told it before.

lets say a mate rings you to ask for help to tune a carb and get a car running sweet.

lets say you help him and he gets it running and he tells you he'll be thankful to you forever for helping him out.

lets say you find out you were the last one to speak to him... you tell the family over the phone that he was really up beat about everything your last conversation was with him in the garage helping him tune his carby so the car ran right he was really happy with getting the car going.

thats when you find out he gassed himself with that car.

while i like the concept of the R U OK campaign i cringe when work get on board each year

it comes across as just a saying for the week or month.........

i generally ask at the manager meeting what if somebody says NO, blank looks, I go on to say its fine asking but we need make people aware that they need a plan if their casual ask become a NO.....only ask if you can actually help the person out.

I believe if people stopped being so self absorbed, and we shifted back to the community methodology of yesteryear we may be a little more observant of our fellow man...

A lot of people couldn't even tell you who their neighbours are... I can name almost out entire block...

Just being observant and then asking could save a life.

Mate, if you need to talk, PM me. No problem is that big, it can't be worked out. It's the people left behind that carry the regret. For the rest of their lives. I'm sure you are not making light of this.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Yep. It can also affect one getting a job so some will not mention it.

A father we knew, similar age to me, who everyone close to him thought was fine, suddenly killed himself. His wife and 3 daughters said they had no idea it was coming.
Our school chaplains frequently counsel suicidal students.
I wish I could say I would be aware if a friend was in trouble, but I honestly can't.
If anyone wants to chat privately, just PM and I'll send my phone number.

Same here mate. Help them when you can. Keep an eye out, but leave well enough alone. It works well in our street.
    Cheers, Billy.

Back to the original question "would they live to regret it"

If it is a question to ponder (and not a play on words), then I read a fictional short story called 'feed the pig' which was based on a person's struggle, and decision they had to make, to escape a fictional version of 'purgatory' to have a chance to live again following their suicide.

Without ruining it for you, it was a good read, but probably not for those who have an aversion to creepy stories / greusome stories.

I'd like to think we're all adult enough to choose whether we can click a link or not without proper warning, but the aforementioned story will need to be sought out yourself, as there is a few choice words in this work of fiction which could technically break FG's (although I believe we are well and truly in the realm of artistic expression IMO).

Google search "Reddit- Feed the pig"

I know 6 families in our long street, our immediate neighbours - but I've only lived here since 1982. I don't particularly want to know anyone.

Sadly, in Australia, suicides are 2.5 times grater than the road toll but attract very little attention. Because the circumstances are so varied in cause and age I don't think any government really knows what to do. However depression does seem to be a common significant influence in the last decision. So, it does seem possible, if one can beat depression, make that I am worth it decision, than they could live on to perhaps regret they came to such a low point. However if you have ever had depression its not that simple.

Much more money for research is need to be put towards depression. As others have said the flow on effect on all who know the lost soul can influence them for generations. And thats not good for society or family.

In my experience, I like it to balancing on a fence. The decision as to which way I fell was not mine. I can't explain why I fell on the live side, I am not religious, but I was not in a state of mind to make that decision logically. I don't regret going there, but I made a deal with myself I would not go there ever again for anybody or anything. I still get depressed but I have worked out how to endure it and move steadly out of it. I admit I do find cup have empty easier to deal with than half full. So some personalities may have a innate disposition to depression or the heavier side of life.
