    Vale: Quishu Summer Splash

The sad but inevitable occurred today.

Daphne had seemed well or at least not suffering until overnight Friday, she was off her food this morning and I planned to take her to the vet this evening to do what I knew was coming. She was resting quietly when I went to the grocery shop after lunch and she had died before I returned.

Douglas and Her progeny Royce and Denison were able to spend several hours experiencing her lifeless body before I took and buried her near her favorite place.

Daphne (Quishu Summer Splash) was 12 years and 11 months old, a reasonable lifespan for a pug.

    She will be missed.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Sorry to hear that Diana.

Even when you know it's inevitable.... it doesn't make it any easier.

    Sorry for your loss Diana.

I'm coming in late in this thread, for some reason I hadn't noticed it.

I'm 58 and have had only 4 dogs around me all my life. The first 3 all lived to 17 with a bit of overlap.

The conundrum you had re: suffering was explained to me some years ago by a very astute person.

Dogs can have obvious problems, or vet diagnosed non obvious terminal conditions that they will die from.

The way they tell you they've 'had enough' is by constantly hanging by your side, i.e. generally within a metre or so. They want 'help', as difficult as that may be to provide.

It is really obvious when this happens.

I think in your case your dog was not suffering and just departed.........

    DL
