    I drive a ...........

Invariably when chatting and the subject turns to vehicles, i say, i drive a Land Rover, as opposed to Defender or Puma.
The automatic assumption from the other party is it is a Series/Defender type vehicle, which often leads to two extreme responses, drooling or derision, for derision i often respond tongue in check and say i think (for example) the Rangie or Discovery really kicks the Toyota 200 's arse. Which leads to confusion by the other party.

Do other owners respond with LR or Defender/Disco/Rangie specificity, and do they find a natural assumption that LR = Series/Defender by the great unwashed knuckle dragging bogan Hilux world

PS i suspect many Rangie/Disco drivers dont even know it is a LR
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I'm a trainer, its funny but in the class when we talk about vehicles and I say "oh this is what I have", and show my Perentie on the big screen, they are all quite envious. Usually at the end of the day 1 or 2 of them come up and say they want one and have been watching the auctions. Almost all (some grudgingly) think that Land Rover are probably the best all round buy.
Those of us that are inclined to worry, now have the widest selection in history.

There has been recent discussion on how horrible the Perentie is.
They just don't get it, do they.

When I talk to the great unwashed on the merits of Landrover ownership, I don't differentiate between the models. I describe all the good points without any reference to which model they apply to.
Otherwise it gets to confusing to those uninitiated to the world of Landrover.

I generally say I drive a Land Rover.

Your right, most initially assume Series/Defender - a "real" land rover in some people eyes.

Quite funny watching them look straight past it looking for a Land Rover in the car park.

Love to see their reaction to a 101 though.
