I have never seen valve stems in any conventional Auto Parts Store. Anywhere...
Always got them direct from supplier or from a local tyre shop.
Sorry in advance for this winge..
But my tyre valve stem decided to fail on one of my rims. I went to three different auto part stores they all looked at me like i was crazy. But I could buy a Ford Falcon shaped USB computer mouse if I wanted. I seem to have this type of experience a lot.
I can just take it to a tyre center, however i just wanted to give it a go myself before i needed to fix it in anguish in the middle of nowhere.
Frustrating.

Any tyre shop should sell you a handful of these for a few bucks each, after all they buy them in bulk. I reckon Bursons had some the last time I wanted some, a few years ago. I repair most of my own flat tyres myself, bought a commercial Rema Tip Top plug patch kit, easy to use.
Rema TIP TOP A6 Minicombi CAR Mushroom Tyre Plugs X 40 | eBay
Special Cement SC BL 225G CAN Rema TIP TOP Tire Repair Minicombi | eBay
Of course tubeless valves are available on ebay too:
4pcs TR 413 Snap IN Tyre Tire Valve Rubber Tubeless Short Valve | eBay
Bricks and mortar shops are killing themselves, no sympathy for them at all.
Yeah just need to find a tyre place i can get to before they closeMaybe try Burson up here in salisbury.
and Gordie yeah I know they say they have them but apparently out of stock everywhere.
Sorry was just really having a rant
Its like whenever you go there to get a socket, filter, anything you find all but the item you want. But i can get a stubby cooler or a plastic model engine that really works :P
Yes they can be frustrating, advertise a special, go in and the shelf is empty, luckily in my area we have a repco right next door, usually turns out that I walk in there, use the RAA card for discount and get the same product cheaper anyway! Also have a sprint autoparts nearby, usually cheaper for parts by far.
Every auto store I've been in sells valve stems... And I am a regular customer at quite a few.
Geez, I have never had to buy a valve stems........ya gotta be unlucky to damage one.
Yeah I have done a lot of kms on these tyres, and unknown history before i purchased car 3 years ago. Anyway driving through VIC a week ago I did a pretty hard emergency cornering (as in S2a 88" on princes hwy turning 90 degrees into a side street at about 85kph to avoid a child chasing a ball.). Then noticed the slow leak.
Anyway so everyone can have a laugh at my expense as well. I went to Bridgestone, purchased some stems ($5 for 3), built a dangerous looking way to break the bead near the stem...
It worked.. and it has a bloody inner tube in it :P
So for now that is the end of this learning curve :P The spare is on and i will take this one back to Bridgestone to fit a new tube sometime. Although i feel this answers a lot of questions about how i could do so many insane tracks with bad>terrible conditions and get through without a puncture. (hopefully this doesn't start a debate on tubes vs tubeless)
