I went Telstra. Absolutely seamless and pain free in the installation and the service is reliable. You will pay more tha for Optus, but there have been absolutely no problems for me from day 1 and they event trialled me on some new technology for a few months on new high speed fixed wireless setup which was good.
Optus were bloody hopeless and every time I rang them to find out where they were, they told me that my appointment had been cancelled mysteriously.
Cheers

I would like to relate what happened to my sister.
She lives in Wilunga, SA. Her suburb, and her house, was I believe the first NBN connection on the mainland. She was given no choice. The connection was being made. They cut through her garden and landscaping, forced an installation in her house, and then insisted she sign up or she would have no home phone. I might add that at this point she was in her late 60s, and not of the FaceBook/YouTube generation.
Since the installation it has been virtually impossible to get her on the 'landline', I pursued Telstra to the point where they paid her nearly $3000 under their CSG, and I am in the process of doing the same again.
The NBN, in my view, is an incredible waste of our money, given how poorly thought out it was. I know we need to do something to 'future proof' ourselves, but the ISPs would have done so via commercial imperative.
I live around 35 Ks as the crow flies from the CBD, and I'll never have the NBN, except by satellite, same way I get Foxtel. And I read that this is the future?? What a joke. Keep the NBN.

Have a read of their history. A certain PM was involved in what made them, that is OzEmail. Not convinced that was a success story, unless you were Malcolm Turnbull or one of his. That said, I use iinet. They have been the best I've had. I used to use iPrimus, but they were too slow installing ADSL2 DSLAMMs at my exchange. Will NEVER go back to the T mob. NEVER in my life. I'd rather go without.

From what I can see Optus offers the best value in terms of bundled plans and the modem (AC, wireless). I'm with Optus now and while the ADSL2+ is reliable and I find their service and accounts hopeless.

Investigations attached.
To a very large extent the difference in prices between RSPs will reflect how much they spend on 'service'. This includes such things as answering the phone when you call them with a problem (and in an accent you can understand), and having a billing system that works all the time. Again, you tend to get what you pay for.
