For anyone that was interested in what I did with the old POS 434. I just chucked one of those "inframe" rebuild kits into it.

I just used scrap from around the yard (and the towbar tongue from my old ID19 ) to pull the liners that were very tight.

I bought the cheap ebay inframe rebuild kit. $430 or whatever it is from Wagga tractors. It's all labelled "ENGLAND" Bepco. It doesn't say "made in" ... so is likely from China. But it seemed quite ok to me. The only issue I had was one liner was sitting at 0.3mm protrusion when checked with a metal ruler and feeler gauges ( the others were all about 0.15mm so ok). It turned out to be the block though. I put a soft wire brash into the angle grinder and gave the seat area of the block a good going over ... and the liner dropped down enough to be within spec.

I just crossed my fingers and avoided looking anywhere near the bottom end. The valves seats were marked in places. But I just gave them a good hand lap and re-assembled it.

I'll be buggered if it didn't fire right up 3rd turn of the starter happy as anything. Other than trying to kill myself by hurtling around the paddock in 2nd high with the slasher on the back (as I wanted the motor to work hard to bed the new rings ... but the grass isn't long or thick this time of year) it all seems fine.

Hopefully she'll last a few years without me needing to mess iwth it too much now!

    seeya,
    Shane L.

oh with the injectors.... I decided I shoudl do something with them ... but the wallet didn't want to come out of my pocket ...

They sure look like that haven't been touched in 50years.

there straight forward to get apart.

Gee's ... I just couldn't get the needle out .... Those SOG pliers have the grip strength of very tight vice grips. They have geared reduction in the nose (you can easily cut coins with them). I tried the multi-tool chuck. it couldn't spin the needle, it just slipped it's chuck no matter how tight it was. I was starting to think I wouldn't be able to get them apart

I don't know what that needle is made of... but I didn't even mark it, even when I was getting pretty . at it because I couldn't even spin it, let alone extract it. Whatever it is made of is far harder than hardened tool steel

Anyway, I did figure out a way of doing it. Lots of WD40 and working the needle in and out of it's seat for a short time did the trick.

This stuff works so effectively... I'm sure it must be a deadly poison that'll give you cancer just looking at it.

without the needle there I wasn't worried about wire brushing it.

Look how grotty the injector needle is.

After "polishing" it with a drip of oil and touch of toothpaste as suggested in that youtube clip. Look at the hardened mirror finish on that thing!

Then I just carried them inside (boss women wasn't home) and in the sink using really hot water and soap washed any traces of oil and toothpaste away and lightly oiled them for re-assembly.

I know this isn't doing the job properly. The spray pattern hasn't been checked, it hasn't been checked for leaking ... and the break pressure hasn't been checked. But hey, it has to be 99% better than it was!

Tractor is running brilliantly since rebuild ... Last weekend through a friend I picked up a safety mulcher/mower.. It's exactly what I thoght would be best, knife type blades (for finish type cutting) and big enough that I don't spend forever cutting.

It has one new pair of blades on it .... Nice, there is two cutting edges on the blades... when you have worn one side out beyond re-sharpening, you just turn them around.

I reckon the rest of the blades are the ones it left the factory with ....

Someone certainly got there moneys worth out of the blades... This is about 3/4's of them. I still have a row of blades to pull off. What do you think... A quick sharpen and throw them back on for another few season

I have of course now worked out the problem with flail mowers. There is 76 pairs of blades on it ... Buying 76 bolts and 156 blades isn't going to be in-expensive

    Hi Guys,

well I chased up some blades for that mower.

FLAIL MOWER BLADE KIT 1329005 FOR LAWN GENIE 6000FM 7200FM 8800FM | eBay

ebay USA. It was going to be $350 delivered. The blades are the wrong size .... (1cm shorter, so may not have the tip speed of the correct blades) and .25mm possibly thicker.

I sent the seller an email saying "I have a bomford turner "turbo mower" with 152 flails. Do you have an extra 12 flails and a bolt set ?). He replied and said he could throw in the extra 12flails for free. That works out at about $2.30 a blade delivered to my doorstep. I figured I might as well grab them ... or get rid of the mower, as I will never have the $1000+ is would cost to replace the flails locally.

I'm quite impressed with the way it works. We are under water here .... Infact my wife is going to be downright ****ed off with me if she comes down here and see the mess I've made drive the tractor around the paddock ( I almost need to fit pontoons to it). I was amazed to find the flail mower even cut all the onion grass off cleanly...... to find 10minutes later it was standing back up ... damn it .. the rear roller just flattens the stuff so it looks cut ... Is there any mower in the world that cuts onion grass ?? Anyway, everywhere the ride on and 5foot slasher hit the ground ... the flail mower just rides over without touching. It's quite remarkable.

this took for bloody ever ... Whoever had owned the mower previously has been running the blade mounts into the ground to try and get it to cut. I had to weld several of them up ... and bend many of them straight. Then drill out the bolt hole to M10, so standard high tensile coach bolts from the bolts and fasteners store would fit. The mower owes me about $630 with new bolts and blades... But it appears to be sound, so hopefully I'll get many years use out of it.

I think this is why it doesn't scalp the ground everywhere like the other slashers and mowers. It has the full length roller at the back ... but I don't think that is what does the magic... I reckon it's the lower 3point hitch attachments. See they are floating links ... and can allow the mower to ride over the ground and not be influenced by what the tractor is driving through.

Yeah, very green, unlike here where it's shades of brown and there is already talk of summer water restrictions.

I'm thinking I better water our lawn soon before it dries out any more. I haven't started the mower here in Brissie for three months.
Of course, climate change is fake, isn't it?

I don't think I have started my mower since December last year. My lawn is mostly bare ground with a few stalks. What growth there has been with the small falls we have had has been eaten off at ground level by the roos.
