Yep... it shut down our production facilities today as it was cheaper to shut down than produce at those prices.

Glad Gupta is going to be building self sufficient generation here shortly.

Luckily we’re on the hospital grid here, so one of the last to be shut down...

GenSet fully fuelled and ready to go just in case.

I’ve seen SA spot prices more than double that...

The National Electricity Rules (the Rules) set a maximum spot price, also known as the Market Price Cap. On July 2017, this cap was set at $14,200 per megawatt hour, and is adjusted annually for inflation.

i dont understand it, but the SA-VIC link just got reduced

ACTUAL NEGATIVE SETTLEMENT RESIDUES - VIC to SA - 19 January 2018.

Electricity Market outcomes have resulted in the accumulation of negative settlement residues that have exceeded the allowable negative residue threshold for the VIC to SA directional interconnector.

The negative residue constraint set NRM_VIC1_SA1 commenced operating from 1430 hrs on 19 January 2018.

This constraint set contains an equation with the following interconnectors on the LHS:
    V-S-MNSP1
    V-SA

The RHS of the constraint equation may be adjusted to manage residues.

Yesterday's spike was apparently after Loy Yang B tripped over 500MW out of the grid, so much for "reliable" coal. Wholesale prices today once again jump all over the place, Tasmania is currently negative.
