Bull crap what do you think victim impact statements are all about.
About 3 years ago an Asian tourist caused a head on collision that killed a mate of mine and disfigured me for life by being on the wrong side of the road, The woman responsible was convicted and jailed for this.
After reading mine and the family of my deceased mates impact statements she was released and deported because we both recommended leniency in our impact statements.
Without these impact statements reccomending leniency this woman would still be in jail, So don't tell me that the victims don't have their say in this country because you haven't a clue what you are talking about.

Judges should have one task - arbitration of incidents.
The penalty for Criminal offences should by default be the maximum.
After hearing Victim statements, and if victims have requested leniency- only then should sentences be reviewed.
Immigrants here on Visa (not naturalised) should be immediately deported to their C.o.O. No appeals, no delays.
What would happen to any assets or family of the deported offender?
I beg to differ.
By showing leniency in my impact statement it had a direct and immediate impact on this woman's sentence and I knew for a fact that it would have this effect or I wouldn't have bothered making the statement in the first place.
The reason why I chose to show leniency is because the woman did not intentionally cause this accident and she showed genuine remorse for her actions and not just because it landed her in jail.
Believe it or not I am not a vindictive or vengeful person and I could see no useful purpose in keeping her incarcerated any longer in a (To her) foreign jail and when deported she will never be allowed back into the country so she has zero chance of hurting anyone in Australia ever again. For me justice had been served and the wider community was also protected from any further harm.
