how on earth did they catch criminals before CCTV :p

Last night the NT police force was copping it from the media and the civil liberties mob because they wouldn't make public the rules of use of force for its officers. Legal groups have access to it but they won't make it available to the general public.
i know , let's get the cops to ring the criminals before they leave the station so they know they are coming
Cheers Ean
Not if they come to my house! And before you say im a blah blah its happened before and not long ago actually. Guy with a cattle prod tazer thing tried to zap my son and my sons mate.
Then tried me when confronted. I tried the old one two but he went down after one! Should have had the ***** charged for that actually.
I did take his tazer and his beer he had with him at the time. To be fair it was over a problem we had earlier but wow what a **** to want to try zap kids!
He come back later with a few mates and we squared off again. Just me by myself.
He apologized and all that the next few days.
Point of the story is some people will indeed respond and respond with vigor.
Bring back the cat for felonies. Public lashings. Survivors to be hanged.
Transport minor offenders to Van Diemen's Land. Or better still, to East Van Diemen's Land.
Its not that easy... If I'm ever fronted by a few people ... I will bend over backwards and beyond to avoid a confrontation or fight........... Simply because if there is a fight the police and ambos will be involved (either for them, me or both). You see ... the old 1 .. 2 will work sometimes. If that would have worked, so would simply restraining the person any sort of joint lock. Now, what if they are off there face on drugs ... have any sort of mental problems ... or they have weapons it will not. If I'm fighting, it will because there is no other choice ... I'm not "punching on" with poeple, I'm smashing knees, elbows, ribs... punches will be aimed to stop the person (eg throat)... not blacken an eye.
Have you seen someone off there nut on drugs ? Your only choice is to knock them out cold. I'm not sure how the police handle them. Have you ever seen a 75 year old dementia patient pumped full of enough drugs to knock out an elephant ... running up and down the street off his nut (I have). Are you going to smash his knee to stop him ? Hit him so hard you knock him out ...... How is this one for a "gotcha". What if he is you grandfather ........................... The police have the most impossible job you can ever dream of. They are damned if they do ... and damned if htey dont'.
Life isn't a movie ... people die really easily. A knife I reckon is one of the scariest things out there. and they worry me far more than firearms ever will in australia.
Just called me the scrawny scared one.... 'Cos I'm not fighting unless there is absolutely no option. Would I stand and watch the bashings and crap that are going on .............. Not ever. But I'm still not fighting unless there is simply no other option.

I will leave you guys to it. Some of you clearly have entrenched views of lawyers including Judges that in the main are misinformed but you dont seem to care when someone inside the legal system tries to give you a different perspective (ie fact as opposed to urban myth). I mean seriously not all (far from all) judges, magistrates and other lawyers were born with a silver spoon, live in flash areas, drive flash cars, swill expensive wine, charge outrageous rates (or dont do free 'pro bono' work) etc etc. But hey, who am I to get in the way of narrow minded nonsense.
Good luck to you.
Although I disagree with you on a lot of your views in this thread, I accept your opinion and embrace the open debate from both sides. This is such a polarising subject, that we will never all agree, we all have our own ideas. Please don't diminish your experienced opinions by calling other opposing opinions 'narrow minded nonsense'. Early in the thread you were condescending toward my opinion(and I can take that on the chin), not knowing what background I have in the legal system, and I am sure there are others on here who are suitably qualified or experienced to comment. You have made your case, if you are going to retire from this thread, do it with the dignity that I am sure you are capable of, having read your well constructed rebuttals. Cheers.
