Here's an alternative view. I see 62 Australian women have been murdered this year, so domestic violence is obviously a much bigger problem than African gangs. Let's focus on figuring out why men attack women instead.

I Seriously doubt that the police would disagree with me because they are constantly charging and arresting the same people over and over
again that the courts have put back on the streets, It would be very frustrating for the coppers dealing with these same ratbags all the time.
Yep, totally agree with those stats, but don't get sucked in too much into the currently pushed DV message/industry. It's a giant can of worms with lots of things left unspoken. Nearly 50 men were killed by women in the same time frame and around 60% of children killed by their parents were killed by the mother. Researchers figure it's probably higher than that as drownings, poisonings and suffocating the children (womens methods) are easier to pass off as accidents (as told to me by a Psychologist mate who mostly deals with PTSD, childhood trauma and DV cases). So as well as teaching men not to beat up on women, maybe we should be teaching women not to kill their children too? Not that I'm advocating for that at all. Erin Pizzey, who founded the White Ribbon movement in the UK, said that domestic violence (physical, emotional, etc) isn't a "gender" issue - it's a "domestic violence" issue, and BOTH sexes need help when lifes pressures build up (check her wiki site). She was trying to separate the abused from the abuser to break the cycle of violence (both male and female). Lots more money needs to be spent on this, but in a constructive way, to give people the help they need. The African gang issue is something else entirely and is currently newsworthy!
(flame suit on....) [biggrin]
Yep, heard it all before, you don't live in Melbourne, you don't know how it's changed. How many terror attacks where you live,....another in Melbourne only a few days ago.
Plenty of people are getting on with their lives, but an increasing number can't, and an increasing number of offenders are getting bail for all sorts of reasons,....the recent Bourke St murderer was a repeat offender, didn't turn up to court, broke bail conditions etc etc,....everyone said He should've been locked up,........but He wasn't, and there's plenty more like him.
Brunswick rapist/murderer a few years ago,....repeat violent offender, should've been inside,......but He wasn't.
Anyway guys, I don't care whether you agree or not, but at least I'm aware of what's happening.
Funnily enough, I was talking to a friend of mine today, his son is in the Force,.....He told me a lot more stuff that I'm not even game to write about,......but some of you guys say I'm dreaming, so it's probably all untrue,....yeah right.
Wait for the next "episode".
Pickles.
Disco, have a look at the stats, have a look at the details, without looking at the details, I'll GUARANTEE that the majority of those were repeat offenders, prior record of violence etc etc,.....it's all part of the same deal my friend,..too many chances, too many cbos, and they get another chance, and another,...and what happens?
Pickles.
Certainly would be repeat offenders in there. Also, as pointed by another member in an excellent post #783 above, plenty of women also kill men.
My point was just that politicians have focused on African gangs, but domestic violence is a much bigger issue. Maybe it's just too hard for kneejerk reactions and requires serious long term programs, which don't seem to interest those politicians who are chasing short term fixes to win votes.
Domestic violence has been a problem since the dawn of man it is nothing new and it will never go away its all a part of our human nature.
Thugs terrorising our streets IS something new and there IS something we can do about it.
Correct.
Of course domestic violence/violence against women etc is an issue, but it's just a part of the BIG picture. Violence of ALL descriptions is on the increase, as is the number of multiple repeat offenders who are let out on bail time after time by the do-gooder judiciary, many of whom think the "softly softly" approach will work. In the majority of cases, it doesn't. Some of you may have read of a youth who repeatedly committed assaults outside, and then was put in a youth detention facility instead of the "big boys" jail. He re-offended by way of attacks on fellow prisoners & prison officers TEN times, before a judge said that was enough, & despite his pleas for leniency, sent him to jail. This sort of stuff is in the media all the time.
Pickles.
As a matter or morbid curiosity, what areas do you steer clear of or have your family steer clear of in Melbourne and why Pickles?
Cheers
Society is the safest it has ever been and yet the AULRO doom and gloom rednecks continue to preach the sky is falling in - yes there are some dodgy court decisions that the media promote with zeal but overall the system works and as a society we are all the safer for it.
