There won't be a new Defender.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
Well, when you guys say that "there will be no new Defender", are you saying that, because you feel that the "New Defender" will be so far removed from what we know as a "Defender", that it will be unrecognizeable as such?
I wouldn't place too much faith in what Dave Phillips has to say, based on previous stuff He's written on Defender, particularly in the period leading to the end of production. Some of his wildly inaccurate statements, "there will be a run of 5.0L S.C. Defenders, the production line will move off shore where Defender production will continue", and lots of other stuff that I can't remember. I even sent him an email suggesting that a person in his position should not post so much totally inaccurate rubbish.
Obviously I've got no idea at all about the new Defender. But I did read a statement from Ralf Speth, that He'd actually driven a prototype!! I think various JLR people have said that the new Defender will be built in three ranges/levels whatever that means! I've also read comments from JLR along the lines of "We know the importance of Defender to our brand and our history etc, and so we will make sure that the new Defender is worthy of the name"etc. Time will tell I guess.
IMHO, some information of a definite nature will be released by JLR before the end of 2017. But of course, like everyone else, except those of the Solihull "Inner Sanctum", in reality, I know nothing at all.
Pickles.
IMHO....
The likes of VW, Merc etc etc.... all want to try and re-invent the wheel and get on the light duty 4x4 work/play vehicle band wagon, that lets face it has been pretty well perfected/dominated by Japanese brands for decades.
If I seriously needed a reliable light duty 4x4 work/play truckster I'd never consider anything from VW or Merc, top of my list would be a Toyota Hilux, then likely a Ford Ranger.

If the new Defender wants to fill the boots of the old Defender then that Nisscedes hack together is not a competitor, light 4wd vs heavy 4wd.
I have a Ford Ranger.....it is ordinary.....my 16yo D2 that I owned up until the Ranger would eat it under any given comparison......I drove a hilux nearly every day for over 2 years as a work vehicle and it was years behind the D2 in everything it did.
I sometimes wonder where people get their perceptions from....certainly not from experience....
Interesting you should say that... We have a lot of farmers coming in and out of work (Agricultural dealership), and we see very few Hilux's now.. and a lot more Amarok's. They don't rate the Hilux at all, and do rate the Roc. The Hilux's are overpriced, and no longer bullet proof.. I'd have to agree.. One of our mechanics has one with an alli work body on the rear. Its sloppy, tinny and sounds like a Prado. My money would be on an Amarok or 5 pot Ranger.
