Good on her, I told my boys that if they did not do uni, they had to get a job. I did not want them on the dole, to many kids these days once get on it, don't want to get a job as it is easy money for them. I know one of our son's friend finish school and did not work . My son has been to uni and now over in Japan to do more studies.This kid has not worked for 3 years. I could not stand for that. He now has had 2 part time jobs this year which where very short. I do not think he is working again. The money they get on the dole is sometime more than doing work, so the kids say why do they need to work, stay at home and rake the money in on smoke and drink.:mad: Heather
If you're living at home the maximum you can get on youth allowance is $285 a Fortnight, $433 a fortnight if you live out of home. Barely enough to live on, not an easy ride at all. I had to go on youth allowance once for a month as I injured myself whist working on my fathers house and we had a falling out. I had bills to pay and it really saved me, and after month I was able to work again and get off it (well actually they kick you off it, you constantly have to prove you need it). The whole process was very degrading, and they make it very hard for you to actually get money from it, I would spend days getting the right paperwork from doctors and then lining up at Centrelink for hours, each fortnight I know there are ways to cheat the system, but honestly working a proper job is would be much easier!Quote:

I think the whole thing of "dole bludgers" is massively blown up IMHO, after all there are many many people out the who genuinely rely on it and need it, we have a pretty good and honest welfare system and should be proud of it! :cool:
Statistically, there are five jobless people for every advertised job, so bashing the unemployed seems a bit pointless to me. How about our leaders instead do their own jobs better and pay more attention to decisions which could increase the number of jobs in this country, instead of slashing and burning all the time?
Up here the mango farmers are bringing in workers from Timor & lobbying the Government to not impose the backpacker tax cause no one will pick fruit.
Funny how there are still people at Centrelink who can't find a job.

Going off Topic slightly - I have a cousin who is 42/43 and has never worked a day in her entire life... Not a single 8 hour day..
She isn't disabled or handicapped, and has a loving family. (Perhaps too loving).
I can't understand how she gets away with it - but there are people out there who don't want to work. She is on some kind of welfare, I'm not exactly sure what type.
(It frustrates me greatly, as I have worked full time since turning 15 and leaving school. Through hard work and probably luck, I've never been out of work).

In our national budget 35 cents in the dollar is spent on welfare. Thats $158 billion a year. Considering less than 6% of people are officially unemployed, spending a third of our budget on them seems out of whack...
Wlefare also covers single mums, old people benefits, and everything else that sounds like free money for bad choices....
As for cant get a job.
I looked for 3 days and landed 6 interviews with 4 options to start.
Ive received 3 cold calls and turned down one "sounds like you know what you need to whered you get the add from you're the only call up weve had? don't know how the job got into that advertisement but since youve called can you start last monday? " which was in kalgoorlie
Ive taken the one that pays the most and keeps me closest to home for now.
Is that 35 cents for all welfare or just unemployment benefits?
There are a lot of other forms of welfare.
Aged pensions would be the largest amount.
