    P Plates......are they really needed

With my oldest son about to get his license I'm struggling to work out why the need.

I can kinda understand the 80km/he one so that one knows why there is a slow car in front

Other than that I don't change anything when I see a P Plater. Buggered if even notice the plates when approaching cars...it's the last thing I'm looking for on a bend at 100km/hr....and if I'm behind them well I can see them regardless of a plate or not Ann's half are not real visible anyway.

Ditch the P Plate I reckon.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I kind of like the P plate idea,t,he Red,indicates that they are just off L's and can possibly do something odd,2years now on red's then 1 on green's (a license to speed and do stupid things)female drivers are the worst, they seen to need to be at their destination yesterday!,with luck they will still have the same car they started with.

    cheers

They do warn you of the so-called "experience" of the driver of the vehicle with the "P" plate. Red, means they are still following the rules of the road (mostly) and green means they now know it all and don't have to follow any rules.

I am always "on guard" when a green "P" plater is near me.

Ahh the old plates.. a distant memory!

I was on "L"s for 3 days and "P"s for 3 months before I was issued a full licence...

I'm sure some on here just went for a drive with the local Cop and got their licence...

What I don't like is P2s in SA... they're restricted to the 100km/h limit but not required to display a plate in SA...
So you don't know just why that vehicle is only doing 100 in a 110 zone.

    Hi,
A driver's licence was a licence to drive when I got mine (Tas 1963)
    Everything except an articulated vehicle.

Hi when I got my p"s it was one year on red and they after that you where off them. These days with tinted windows you can not see them anyway until you are really close. And also in my days you had to have them next to your number plates on the outside. My first car was a Ford Falcon wagon Xl and I jammed the plate under the back tail light and bumper stayed there until I took it off. Love that car Manual and on column shift. Heather

I cant see anything wrong with the system in the slightest.

I dont see why young kids these days should be worried about P plates on cars, Back in my day I had to have P plates on the Heavy Combination.....

    Wait a second......

Yes but it states they must be clearly visible - hence on tinted vehicles should be displayed externally P Plates......are they really needed

It's an offence that is usually reserved for when they deserve a "talking to"
