Hi People.
I have a 4D Maglite. The batteries once leaked damaging the reflector, its useable but not as good as it was.
Anybody converted to LED???? What did you use???Considering I need a new reflector.
Will this 10W upgrade chew thru the batteries as bad as the incandescent globe????
I would use the thing more if it wasn't so battery hungry.

I got a 4d maglite for free off a mate who worked in security years back. It too had leaked.
Cave it a wash out wtih a wire brush, and cleaned the acid salts out of the body with a basic solution.
Kept it incandescent for years, but converted to LED 3 or so years back usintg ebay parts.
I'd recommend it. LED is way more efficient than incandescent. All torch parts can be easily procured, and the unit will last a lifetime. Only downside I found is the reflector body I got for the LED globe is not the best at a strong focus, but for a bit of light and the occasional bludgeoning, it goes alright I reckon... but the kit you are looking at seems to have that covered.

I have a 4D which was purchased as an led maglite, it is not battery heavy but its not 10w either.
for the price of the conversion led I would consider a new torch if you are going to spend that much.
you can get some pretty mean , much smaller lights for $75.
If yours has focusing now, you'd loose it with this change. I have two rechargeable maglites they have focusing ability. Also I'm with Ramblingboy, Your $75 would probably buy an equivalent or better torch if you do your research.
Don.
I have two 2D Maglites and one Chinese clone that I bought years ago, all running replacement 3W LED globes. None of them get used on a daily basis because of the battery costs but they are always on hand for emergencies. The 5W LED torch I use regularly is fitted with rechargeable Eneloop AA batteries as they hold charge well. If I had a 4 D cell Maglite I would consider purchasing four 18650 Lithium cells plus a charger, fit two using a length of rubber hose to bulk them up and a brass slug to adjust for length. That would give you 7.2V approx. Then keep the other two handy for swapping. Four 18650's and a charger start from $25 on Ebay for cheapies to $120 for top quality Panasonic cells.
The 5 watt LED head would probably suffice if you're used to a globe but the 10 watt head would be awesome.
I had a 3d led mag lite till some one else wanted it more than me
Brilliant light and miss it dearly
Looking at your link i found this buried in the ebay links

I love my 4D Maglite. It was a gift from an ex employer.Plus its real handy if you get caught between a rock and a hard place and you need to hang on to the shiny end

... being 2" shorter, the 3D can accelerate to a greater rate of knots...and with alkaline batteries will still dissipate the energy nicely !
Last LED upgrade I bought was from Rapid2you Ltd and does 3 to 6 cells CREE XP-G2 No reason to argue with the 260 lumens claimed...
Another aftermarket one I tried had 3 emitters/reflectors which replaced the focussing stuff. Variable outputs with the ubiquitous 'SOS' flashing... One LED died...
Currently, I have a few '501B's running 18650's which does me for everyday carry and more. Claimed lumens range from 180 to 500+.
DX.com is my main hunting ground for these...although, this from evilBay might give you some ideas.

I've got a 2x 18650 version of this, at least it looks identical, and it eats my Maglites, w i d e flood to intnse square spot.
Back to '501's, good value per $, and my recommendation is always towards a 'Warm White' colour. Greater detail in the foliage and bush, despite the lower lumen count. And higher price...
