    Just wasted an afternoon

I decided to tidy up the t4 VW van and install a second battery. I had the battery and isolator. Perfect spot under the rear seat, Fitted nicely and was tucked away out of harms way. Run all necessary cables and soldered lugs. Mounted isolator. Sat battery in battery box and connected cables. Went to fit under seat and the battery won't fit. Tried it without battery box didn't I.

    At least the battery fits.
Sounds like now it's just a question of how you are going to secure it in there.
    Metal straps and bolts?
Ring lugs and a ratchet strap?

I don't think I would like it there without the box. I know it is a sealed battery...but..

Plenty of car manufacturers do that even to this day - Commodore is the first one that springs to mind - that was behind a Masonite panel in my old work car - nothing underneath it - no tray or anything. If the battery was to fail, it would have just leaked into the cars passanger compartment.

And as you said, it's a sealed battery - and battery failures are extremely rare.

Maybe just find a shallow tray to put it in?

Just trying to think of something that will make it work so you haven't wasted your time.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

The AGM aux battery in what was my D4 has been on its side in a shallow tray in the 3rd row foot-well for nearly 7 years.
