I was "unlucky to be" with a particular large pack of crooks.
Had one incident where an idiot sideswipes me.
We stopped and changed details.
Turns out we both used the same large insurer.
Those crooks, explained to me that in order to make a claim, I had to 'make a claim' then promptly sent me a bill for the excess.
Because was was the lower rating of the two drivers, theh automaticvlaly deemed that I was at fault.
No if's but's or maybes here .. no chance to explain .. it was simply that I was the higher risk of the two of us, and therefore I would cost them less.
Over the course of a few more months afterwards, many emails asking them how they came to their conclusion, I simply stopped corresponding with them. So basically ignored them as they would ignore me.
For months they hounded me with phone calls and threatening letters all of which I ignored.. and so it went.
In the end they stopped chasing me! :th3:
Of course the very small amount of damage on my car was never repaired, but that was insignificant compared to the $1500 excess they wanted from me, just to repair was amounted to a tyre mark on the other guys front quarter!
"Lucky I'm" ... no longer with those crooks, and never will be.
So my take from this is to also avoid Bingle too.

A lady friend of ours had her camper home damaged in a hail storm & her well known insurance co would not even access it until she payed the excess. I don't think she went ahead . She was only on a pension & asked if she could pay it off & they refused .

Sometimes you have to apply the right kind of pressure on the insurance company. Had an accident a few years ago which came back from the insurance company as 100% my fault. Could not understand how considering the circumstances could be 100% my fault. Could have accepted if I was party to blame as we were both moving when it happened. Mentioned it on passing to a friend who was a barrister in a firm with a big name in legal circles. He took some photos I had taken of the damage and wrote a letter to my insurance company who wrote back to say I was now 100% not to blame. Never did get the excess back from the other party even taking them to court did not extract the cash.
